It's the nature of the game that you are going to "overpay" sometimes. I have no problem with overpaying if the overall money or guarantee money is low (Brad Jones) or if the money is high you know is a player that is very good in ability/character/locker room/future potential/scheme fit and such as (Jordy,Cobb). Like Brad Jones, ended up not a good signing and was overpaid but his contract never really hurt the team. I was not a big fan of Peppers contract, an older player though a freak athlete coming off a down season with a pretty high amount of 2nd year money. Glad it worked out.

I very much prefer not to give out these monster contract that some players get but have nothing against the more modest deals for the less elite players. There are still good players out there sometimes that you don't have to spend a fortune on though usually they are the guys coming from your own team.

And this was my point. You can get some significant players that could really help this team for almost nothing right now. I'm just surprised he's so against going that route but has no problem over paying some of his own guys.

When Dom Capers first installed the 3 - 4 I was looking for the Packers to overpay to land Chris Canty. That to me filled a need and since he had experience the 3 - 4 (albeit not Dom's) I thought it was worth the investment.

To get players to sign with Green Bay, they have to overpay them because this isn't a big city filled with nightlife. This crop of free agents, I didn't see anyone that was worth overpaying to bring to the Packers, even just for one year. Although prior to free agency, I had thought it would be good to land someone like Rolando McClain.

This isn't so much me saying the flock of free agents was crap as much as it is me saying the Packers are quite talented and need to develop their young guys.

I think it is easier to spend extra to keep someone you know very well than to spend extra on a virtual unknown. Especially when that unknown's prior team isn't willing to do so. Know what I mean?

When you pay a lot of money for someone like Cobb, Bulaga, or Morgan Burnett you already know EXACTLY the player/man you are getting which makes it significantly less of a risk to sign that dotted line. My guess is at this point most teams are waiting to see how they draft plays out before finishing the roster and some free agents are probably waiting for that as well.

I disagree with they have to overpay for everyone. I mean Cobb and Bulaga took less money to stay. Is it the most ideal place to be in the league, no. But for a chance to win a championship this could be a very appealing place. Also at this point in free agency nobody is getting a huge contract. So overpaying now maybe a million dollars. Nothing of crazy significance.

They are very talented no question, but that doesn't mean they don't have concerns. And by ignoring free agency you put a lot of pressure on yourself to hit it out of the park on draft day. Which Ted can obviously do but I just don't see whats wrong with having a little bit of a backup plan.

Reggie White and Charles Woodson are examples who the Packers had to outbid to get to come to Green Bay, but once were here, were less demanding on their contracts.

Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : and because it's not a dynasty league (which makes a lot more sense to be ability to trade picks)
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Oh I know; I was just exploring and it blew my mind that you could trade picks because of the whole reordering thing

beast (2-Aug) : Jerry Jones is infamous for ̶n̶e̶g̶o̶t̶i̶a̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ chatting with players one on one... and going around the agent.
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Oo just saw a blurb saying that Dallas negotiated directly with Parsons and not through his agent
