With a QB making a large handful of harried throws per game, Woodson could get 10+ INT's in a season, easy. There isn't a doubt in my mind.

Man... now I need to reassess all of the players in this year's draft based on how they would fit into a hybrid defense favoring the 3-4.

I think the biggest need is the outside pass rushing linebacker which can be addressed via the draft. Three hybrid players are top ten caliber picks and they're Brian Orakpo, Aaron Maybin, and Everette Brown.

Agreed with all of this, but let me add another outside pass rushing linbacker that stands a decent shot of being available with our 2nd round pick - George Selvie. While not as good as the three mentioned above, the value in round two would be good. Guys like Selvie make it possible to grab one of the top OTs in round one and still find a competant OLB with the 2nd pick.

Going beyond OLB I really like Ray Maualuga who they say is the perfect ILB for a 3-4. I read where if this kid gets next to another veteran ILB (Barnett) and a good vertern DC (Capers) he will be absolutely unstoppable and he is big enough to bring it from the middle.

Another thought at OLB in maybe the second/third round is the kid from Wisconsin. They say he will make a perfect OLB in the 3-4 and is a very high character individual. It was even mentioned that he would be outstanding in a HYBRED 3-4.

Right now I like Maualuga because he would be a day 1 starter with a high level of intensity and a HUGE hitter that will fire people up and will be an All-Pro one day. Hard to pass on a player like that.

+1

Another second round guy that would be able to help us is Ron Brace out of BC. He's 6'3 329, so he could play the nose, but won't come with the first round grade his teammate Raji has.

If Orakpo isn't available at 9, I'd really be for a trade down at this point. There's a lot of tweeners in this draft that could play rush linebacker for us, and DT/DE types like Jackson from LSU and Moala from USC that can play the 5 technique.

I'm worried about the Aaron Kampman situation though. It looks like he's going nowhere, which could be a mistake. If he doesn't work out in the 3-4 then we've essentially wasted our most valuable asset, whereas trading him now would bring in a Jared Allen type return.

I guess if the personal stays the same, plus draft picks, I'd like to have a defense next year of:

DE - Pickett
NT - either Ron Brace/B.J. Raji
DE - Jolly
OLB - Kampman
ILB - Barnett
ILB - Hawk
OLB - one of Orakpo/Brown/Maybin/Selvie/Jeremy Thompson

I think Hawk has the size to be a solid ILB in this scheme, but Barnett isn't an engage and shed type of player, so if we don't get great lineplay his play will completely drop off. He should be another candidate for trade and a wider bodied LB should be brought in, or maybe just give Bishop a shot. Jenkins, Harrell (if healthy), and Cole should give us decent depth along the defensive line.

Hmm... Everette Brown may be my favorite pick now.

George Selvie actually is going back to South Florida I believe. I'm positive he didn't declare. Jerry Hughes was another player that returned to school.

You make a good point though, but you can't anticipate what's going to happen in the draft. You take a tackle in round 1 and then the guys you want aren't there in round 2. It's possible.

Larry English is a prime example of a guy I think a lot of people think will be a 2nd round pick, but I could see him going late round 1. He's a 3-4 outside backer in my opinion and I think a sleeper.

Clint Sintim isn't rated highly by ESPN, but I think he's a first round talent and will go there. A team like Miami or New England would jump on a player like him.

Brian Cushing is a 3-4 backer, but also a 4-3 SAM so he'll be on several teams radar.

My point is I would love to grab Jason Smith at No. 9 and Larry English in round 2, but you don't know if English is going to be there. I think take the best player that can make an impact.

The draft is deep at the position, but the problem is it's so deep that everyone knows that and everyone is going to be grabbing the "tweener" ends/backers because they're good.

I think the best approach is to grab one with the first pick and then maybe look at a guy like Alex Mack if he's there in round 2.

Oh geez, too many names to remember what I'm thinking! Haha. I'm just going to try and be patient until the draft has finally come! I'm really exited about it.

Mucky Tundra (17h) : and because it's not a dynasty league (which makes a lot more sense to be ability to trade picks)

beast (30-Jul) : RIP site 😭
Zero2Cool (30-Jul) : Site will die, I have to restart it.
Zero2Cool (30-Jul) : Quinn stinks. Lot of underthrows. (my guess)
beast (30-Jul) : How did Quinn Ewers effect where Golden was drafted?
dfosterf (30-Jul) : All I've experienced was late at night or early morning. I just figured you were doing something in the background
Zero2Cool (30-Jul) : Site sure seems to be down more than up
dfosterf (29-Jul) : 50 cent hookers? I'm moving to Green Bay. I thought it was just real estate that was more affordable there. 😂
Zero2Cool (29-Jul) : Sure seems site going down more than 50¢ hooker
