Is ILB greatest Packers need? Not so fast

For most of the offseason, the Green Bay Packers' greatest offseason need was obvious: inside linebacker.

But the more I've looked at it the past couple weeks, the less sure that seems. In fact, the argument for cornerback, and maybe even outside linebacker, is just as strong, maybe stronger.

All things being equal, grab the ILB. The position has just been a sore spot for too damn long. If there's a guy who's slightly better at OLB, go there. Honestly, a 1st rounder could probably slide in or out as needed, like Clay.

And remember, we've got contenders for the inside spot in Bradford and Palmer.

It was terrible when we had to rely on Hawk & Jones. Clay played the position pretty damn good. If the value isn't there in the first round why should we change the defense up from the end of the season which improved over that last 5 or 6 games when we made the move to plug Clay in the middle?

Would be nice to get additional ILB for depth, but I don't think it is the biggest need. With the passing games today and TE that almost no ILB can cover, when we get to passing downs we are probably better off with a Safety playing LB on passing downs.

My hope is that Ted Thompson can trade down and pick up an extra higher 2nd and 3rd. Then let him go to work.
