Commonly it takes three or more seasons in the NFL for a wide receiver to really break through. Davante Adams teased us with two really good games as a freshman and by all appearances he was ready to make the next step forward. While no one ever figured him to be the next Jerry Rice or even Jordy Nelson, it was safe to believe he would be a solid WR2 or really good WR3. Add Mike McCarthy labeling Adams the MVP of the off-season (seriously, aren't those for Vikings?) and Aaron Rodgers going out of his way to praise the sophomore we're forced to wonder, what the hell happened??

Make no mistake about it, every team is loaded up with players playing hurt right now and our receiving corps(e) is no different.

Randall Cobb - Shoulder A/C Joint
James Jones - Hamstring
Davante Adams - Sand-in-Vagina or maybe Ankle Sprain
Ty Montgomery - Ankle Sprain

Any athlete will tell you the hardest part about injury recovery is the mental side of it, trusting that the injury is healed. Adams might be 100% physically healed, but mentally, he's soft between the ears and is not trusting his body and it's showing with his lack of focus/concentration on catching the balls. He's also stopped catching with his hands (which coming out of college he was praised for) and is trying to be a body catching receiver.

Adams has some physical talent and if he doesn't get it right between the ears, the talent won't matter.

While I don't think he's Peak'd yet. He definitely appears to have regressed. He's a physical specimen but my goodness his lack of concentration, focus, and poor routes have been popping up all year but were truly magnified on Thursday night. He single handedly killed drives with drops and stuttering off his cut lead directly to that INT.

Do I think he can get better? Yes I do, I think with his ankle injury he might be pressing to make up for lost time which is leading to mental lapses. But his lack of improvement on last years campaign I think might bring the need to draft another wideout next year.

Davante Adams and Richard Rodgers both have very low ceilings. Adams has the potential to be a marginally decent #3 receiver when we get Nelson back, but he just doesn't have the talent or athleticism to get open as a top 2 guy. R. Rodgers probably over-achieved, and is now coming down to earth. He too is hurt by not having more talented other receivers out there to take attention off of him.

Get the high ceiling guy in the game; If he isn't knowledgeable enough of routes, etc., then coach him up like every other team in the league does with their young players.

I think maturity is the problem. Every player has a floor and ceiling, and I think the coaches are the ones that need to work to put your players as close to their ceilings as possible. In Adams' case he is probably not very coachable, he is just 22 and making a lot of money. I think Adams, Janis, Lacy and maybe some other players need to know that unless they take this seriously they are going to be benched and they will stay benched until they work as hard as any other player in the team.

When you have a 22 year old kid in your team you can't trust him take the right decisions about his future.

Reporters are saying Davante Adams told them he is "pissed off" about his drops. That's exactly the kind of mentality that will spur more drops and more mental errors.

I'm just curious how long Packers fans keep seeing Adams, RR, and Janis as more talented then they actually are. Adams and Janis can't catch and RR is a plodder. I have nothing against any of them, I just accept them for what they are. Adams looked pretty good last year as a #3 option, but has clearly blown his opportunity this season. RR at best is a 3rd tight end because of his good hands and blocking ability, but let's get real here, the guy has no ability to make a tackler miss and has very poor YAC. And Janis, well you can wish in one hand and crap in the other and see what gets filled up first. Bring him back for training and see if he's improved.

RR will never beat anyone physically, he is slow and average height. He had some veteran-looking moves early this year.. But has since fallen off a damn cliff.
