I think Ted should be given a little credit for retaining Kampman, Harris, and Driver as well, not to mention drafting Aaron Rodgers who thus far seems like a solid pick.

I'm one of those who's hard on Ted for not making a splash in FA, but I don't want him gone because of it. I also see that you can't turn dust piles into gold nuggets no matter how much money you spend. Sometimes players just don't fit your mold or simply go else where because someone extremely over paid.

I really can't think of any player that was signed as a FA that I wish we would have matched the same dollar for dollar contract. Hell, some are still pissed off Ahman Green left.

I don't remember the last big name guy the Steelers signed, and the Packers have signed bigger names and yet Ted Thompson get's killed by some people for not doing enough in FA.

Well just how do you have to change when you win 2 Super Bowls in 4 years compared to having 1 winning season in that same time span?

You call the likes of Donald Lee, Chillar, Williams, and Kuhn as bigger names than what the Steelers did ? How many of those 4 will be starters this year? I think its probably going to be 0. Woodson noone else wanted so we got him by default.

Why no mention of Charles Woodson or Ryan Pickett?

SHHHHHHHHH don't tell Zero i did mention Woodson we got him by default because were the the only team that would let him play cb 😛. Everyone else wanted him at saftey as he even stated in his interviews that have been posted on this site.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Unfortunately for you I actually know facts and Safety played little to no effect in his decision. It came to MONEY, he said it himself. And yes those very interviews say MONEY was his reasoning. Remember, he did play safety just this last year for us. He's also said that he'd play whatever position needed to HELP the team.

We did not get him by default. Stop being a douche and give Ted credit. If Ted didn't shell out big dollars for a player many assumed was over the hill and injury prone we wouldn't have him. Ted took a chance (wish he'd do it a little more often) and it paid off HUGE.

So keep your 'default' comments away from our intelligent discussion please. Thank you.

since this topic has been derailed ::roll: thought this might be a read

http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/2009/02/peppers-confirms-he-wants-out-of-carolina/

For those who were hoping Julius Peppers would have a sudden change of heart about his desire to leave the Carolina Panthers, forget about it.

In a sideline interview during the second quarter of the Pro Bowl, Peppers told NBCs Tiki Barber he wants out. Peppers wasnt nearly as eloquent as his agent, Carl Carey, who came out several weeks ago and said the defensive end wants to go to another team.

I just feel its time to move on, Peppers said.

Look I'm not saying Brooks is Lechler, I'm just saying if Brooks returns to his SR. year stats than he could be a better value in the short term and be around a lot long than Lechler.

I beg to differ. We are talking about a punter here, not a corner back.

Let's say Ted gives him a five year contract. He will be 37 when his contract is over.

Shane has played 8 years. He is a baby with eight years behind him as a punter. That is nothing for a top rated punter. The best punters, that are proven, last way beyond that.

Ray Guy retired at 37 and he was still booming them. Jeff Feagles... Last year was his 21st in the NFL. Sean Landeta played 19 years... I could go on and on.

Shane is special. I would say he he should be a major target for Ted to bring to Green Bay in F.A. It would be a brilliant move, and the Packers would not have to worry about that position for the next five years.

Punters are so important in the NFC North.
