Eliot Wolf has to be the man to replace Ted Thompson. Who else?

Mark Murphy knows how much longer Ted Thompson plans to work as the Green Bay Packers general manager. He also has a succession plan in mind.

The Packers president/CEO isn’t ready to reveal either one.

However, this much is clear: Murphy won’t be caught off guard when Thompson decides to step down.

During an interview last week at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis, Murphy seemed confident in both the direction Thompson is taking the Packers in and what the future holds whenever his long-time general manager decides to walk away.

Thompson turned 63 on Jan. 17, the day after the Packers lost to the Arizona Cardinals in the playoffs. He’s under contract through the 2018 season.

The question to me really is, will Wolf be willing to sit and wait until Ted Thompson is ready to hang it up?

It -could- be Jon Schneider.

He has a specific clause in his contract that lets him walk if Green Bay offers him the job. I doubt that would be put in if it wasn't at least a conversation at one point.

I gotta be honest though if the choice were between the two I'd lean towards Schneider. Wolf has the pedigree but IMO Schneider has proven to be successful in the job. I just think the faith so many people have in EW is based more on the fact that Ron was his dad more than his accomplishments. Don't get me wrong. I am sure he has been a big part of what the Packers have built and Mark Murphy and Ted Thompson will certainly tell us that but like I said IMO Schneider has proven he can do the job. That said if it is Elliot Wolf I'll be fine with that decision as well. If he sticks around long enough it proves one thing, he has a passion for the Packers and that goes a long way in my book.

Schneider is an incompetent GM and a degenerate GM gambler. I cant believe anyone would so much as furl their brow at TT’s supposed holes at TE ad ILB and not call 9-1-1 after seeing what Schneider did with his OLine last year and will do again this year. Schneider with malice and forethought strategized to put his QB at risk because of his ability to escape the rush and perpetrated the fielding of an OL that sucked. Like I said: the commensurate degenerate gambler.

Schneider’s record of drafting is not very good and in a couple of years could prove to be horrendous. GB’s 2010 draft board was 99% established when Schneider took that work product to Seattle. Schneider’s knowledge and decisions on picks came from Ted’s draft board, not from any ability that he possessed.

TT’s 2011 draft board was probably 75% established when Schneider’s took that work product to Seattle.

TT’s 2012 draft board was probably 40% established when Schneider’s took that work product to Seattle.

2013 was the first year that Schneider was picking with little benefit from 1265’s scouting department and that class is officially a bust. 2014 doesn’t look very good either, it will officially be a bust after this season and the jury is still out on 2015, though it doesn’t have a chance to be a special class.

Lynch, Avril and Bennett acquisitions worked; but Harvin, Miller, Rice, Cary Williams, Graham, his caving to Lynch’s terrorist demand, Mcquisten were easily foreseeable bone-headed moves.

His hyper aggressive degenerate gambling style caused him to sign a conveyer belt of bad to mediocre FA DTs of Branch, McDaniel, Williams, Rubin and McDonald, while he letting a stud he drafted in 2012 go [jay Howard].

With the glob of stud 1st contract guys inherited and accumulated Seattle should have had a 4-5 year dynasty. After 1 SB win, they needed a ST coach, Bostic and AR pulling a choke job and a D getting complacent after a supposed back-breaking INT to get back to SB, and then they cant even beat Minnesota in playoffs in 2015 and then got humiliated by a pedestrian AZ team.
