Don't think he's worth what they gave up, because I think this team is a playoff contender with or without Sam.

It solidifies their QB position, but lets be honest, Bradford is no 2009 Brett Favre and this is a lot to give up for basically a season to season and a half rental of an average at best QB who is made of glass and has spent a good amount of his career on IR. Not to mention it creates a QB controversy next season between the heir apparent and what could be a very expensive backup.

Maybe Spielmen felt he had to make the move because of the window closing with AD, but it imo reeks of desperation because they made the playoffs last season and needed a stopgap to keep their playoff hopes alive. For a GM who has done a good job rebuilding through the draft, he potentially traded away the future that could go down as bad a trade and as infamous in Vikings lore as the Herschel Walker trade if it doesn't pan out. imo the Eagles fleeced the Vikings on compensation in a desperation move by Minnesota when the Eagles knew they werent going to be playoff contenders this season anyways and Bradford probably wasn't in their long term plans to begin with.

What would I have done? Maybe offered to absorb Cutler's contract, if the Bears gave ME a mid round pick.

We have to remember that this first round pick was likely to be a top 10, even a top 5, with the way their season was heading without Bridgewater. Not saying that Teddy is great but without him a mediocre offense became one dimensional and predictable. Essentially, the Queens gave up a sure fire high pick for a QB that hasn't produced in years in order to have some hope for this season.

It's unthinkable to go through an entire season with the knowledge that you're chances to make the playoffs are tiny, not to mention your chances winning the Super Bowl are astronomical. But sometimes the short term effects pale in comparison to the long term ones (see: Colts and Luck).

I think what happened is a team that was going to win 3-4 games maybe just doubled their victories, but I'm hesitant to even say that. Still a .500 team or less if I had to put money down.

On one hand I applaud the Vikings GM for realizing they probably have only a couple of years left with AP as a top back so they're going for it while their window is there.

On the other hand Bradford is pretty horrible, and so injury prone the Vikings could lose him after a few games and be right back where they started. Looking a 6-10 season in the mouth and now w/o two key draft picks.

Overall unless Bradford can summon some Carson Palmer like career resurgence its a bad move.

I guess we'll know soon enough. If he lights up our defense, it's a good move.

The only explanation for this move is pressure from sponsors. They need a "face" for the commercials and without Teddy they don't have it. Now Bradford is indeed bad but at least he has a name.
They are doomed, they already knew this but they didn't want to be doomed and broken.
