Cowboys | Unlikely to be interested in Peppers
Mon, 16 Feb 2009 15:25:36 -0800

Brian Davis, of The Dallas Morning News, reports the Dallas Cowboys likely will not be interested in Carolina Panthers impending free-agent DE Julius Peppers this offseason if he does not re-sign with Panthers before free agency.

Cowboys | Peppers willing to be traded to team
Wed, 18 Feb 2009 16:01:15 -0800

Mike Cranston, of The Associated Press, reports Carolina Panthers DE Julius Peppers would be willing to be traded to the Dallas Cowboys, according to a source.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

I think it'll be a much clearer picture tomorrow, once they do actually franchise one of them. i think we'll find out how much gross wants to stay in carolina. I am under the assumption that a contract with Gross could still be signed tonight; that it is a distinct possibility. carolina may "overpay" to get this done, but that's fine if they're able to franchise peppers then trade him.

I think we could very well see Gross sign tonight to a very big contract, one that may be "more than he is worth", just so they can franchise peppers.

Maybe the rumor of Pepp not wanting to come here is in hopes it makes the Packers outbid everyone else

For what it's worth, the story on ESPN said only that it was 2 NFC teams. Nothing about them being NFC South teams.

ESPN story

NFC teams (besides Dallas) running a 3-4:

Arizona, San Fran, Green Bay. I'm guessing his list is:

1. Dallas
2. New England
3. Arizona
4. Green Bay

I hope you're right, but it does look like Jordan Gross is going to be signed so Julius Peppers is going to probably get tagged if that happens.

Personally the Packers could look into moving down in the draft and then trading their first pick for Peppers. Maybe a team like the Jets whom GB has dealt with a number of times would considering moving to No. 9 so they can get Mark Sanchez. GB can send No. 17 to Carolina for Peppers.

Just throwing it out there.

Just to put into perspective just how good Peppers is.

Kampman and Peppers were brought into the league the same season and Peppers has 20 more career sacks than Kampman.

Kampman became a full time starter in 2004 and comparing the numbers up until then Peppers still has him by a couple of sacks, but about the same production.

Silly member reported instead of posting :)

That whole scenario works for me Pork except I have one question, what position does Peppers play. Does he take the bookend OLB spot opposite Kampmann, or does he play DE on the same side as Kampmann. If the latter is true, I feel sorry for every RT we face.

Gross resigned, Peppers franchised.

Adam Schefter
Panthers franchise Peppers after signing Gross

Well, that didnt take long. Moments after completing a deal for offensive tackle Jordan Gross, the Carolina Panthers designated Julius Peppers as their franchise player, a league source confirmed Thursday. Peppers franchise number is $16.683 million, but it is hardly the money that Peppers wants. He wants his freedom, the ability to leave Carolina and go play in a city that would be desirable to him.

Now that the Gross issue is out of the way, the Panthers can focus on resolving the one involving Peppers.

Carolina and Gross reached agreement Thursday on a record six-year contract worth just under $60 million that will pay out $30.5 million in the first three years of the deal, a league source said. The $30.5 million over the deals first three years is highest ever for an offensive lineman.

Panthers give Gross six-year deal

With one signing, Carolina retained offensive tackle Jordan Gross and kept control of defensive end Julius Peppers.

Carolina and Gross reached agreement Thursday on a record six-year contract that will pay out $30.5 million in the first three years of the deal, a league source said.

The $30.5 million over the deals first three years is highest ever for an offensive lineman.

Now Gross is tied to Carolina and the Panthers now can designate Peppers as their franchise player, a move that will allow them to seek a trade. But Gross was the first piece of the puzzle.

After progress was made this week, the Panthers and Gross finalized the deal Thursday. Carolina took the top offensive tackle off the free-agent market and saved its franchise tag, all at the same time.

Kind of glad we didnt get peppers ... ie would of had to cost too much to have him. And I think we could do much better with some other FAs and draft picks.

I'd like to have Peppers on this team but not if it's gunna cost us an arm and a leg. If we can sign two or three decent players for the price of one Peppers, then i'd go with spreadin the money out and goin with the 3.

I'm still optimistic about landing Pep. He's a genetic freak, he's had one down year, we have the defense that he's looking to play in, and if it played out like Porky suggested, I'd love that.

Honestly, if I were in TT's shoes, I'd view it like this:

"Proven sack machine with plenty of tread on the tires who's never had character issues, or a guy who is in large part a question mark in regards to durability, character, intelligence, and production, who will demand a higher salary than most of the players currently on your roster due to his draft position?"

but, I think at some point in time the franchise is going to have to start trying to pick up a great player. I'm not saying it should be peppers, but i'm not saying it shouldn't be peppers, either.
