The player has to want to come, Ted Thompson can't snap his fingers and make up a players mind for them. Canty is from the east coast and wanted to play on the east coast, it's as simple as that.

If that was the case, why did he visit the Seahawks?

canty's agent probably used them to get a better deal for canty from the giants, just like what he used the packers for. Canty had no intention at the time to go to green bay.

I wish we could have gotten him...now all I can hope for is Igor Olshansky I guess.

Rocky Bernard could have helped at our nose tackle position, or maybe he could have been our end. (6-3, 308lbs.)

Apparently we need useless whining and bitching to entertain some members

My goodness. This thread has 50 responses and 497 reads. More than any thread in the last while here on Packers Home.

You should ban the ass-holes who need useless whining and bitching for their entertainment.

Many people perfer the thread topics that get 4 responses.

I know I love a thread that has 3 responses. It is a much easier read.

Let's face reality here.

Free Agency for the Green Bay Packers is not as simple as for some other teams. There are very few reasons to come to Green Bay outside of a large lucrative contract. Most people either do not originate from the Wisconsin area, dislike all that cold and the outdoor stadium, or have no interest in the "nightlife" in Green Bay when they can enjoy NY. One of the reasons that people did come here was to play with Favre, but that reason's now replaced with playing in a 3-4 defense. But then, this will be our first season in a 3-4 and likely that many players would be wary of whether we can be successful or not in the scheme. Why would they take that chance with us?

Hence, the only way to lure a free agent to Green Bay is to overpay relative to the potential amount that we could have paid for that player, if we were in a bigger market.

I hate to agree, but it has got to be true. We have trouble signing the younger, "hot rod" players. They don't want to come to GB. Look at our recent signings, Chillar, Woodson, and Pickett are all older, and have basically said they only came to GB for the money. Even though they like it here now.

It is no secret that Ted Thompson likes to build through the draft and spend a minimal amount on players. Considering the potential for an uncapped 2010 season when player salaries could skyrocket, it certainly is a good idea not to be stuck in a salary cap problem heading into that season.

I'm not unhappy that Cole has left or Canty wasn't signed. As I mentioned earlier, I believe this could imply that we'll be taking a stronger look at BJ Raji, who I'd take in a heartbeat over those two.

It's ridiculous to say anything about Ted Thompson at the moment. I like how some people act as if they know what happens behind the scene. Its obvious, as many people have said already that Canty wanted to be in New York. I don't know that just as much as the next person.
Are the Redskins top contenders now because Boy Blunder went out and blew his load on Haynesworth? No.
Cole is gone and thats probably a good thing. Cole looked like Tarzan but played like Jane. Ted Thompson gave him an exceptional deal but with players today, they always think they are better than what they are. Glad he's gone, he will do nothing for Seattle.
The organizations eyes should be set on Igor. Hopefully we do get him. What most people are overlooking is the quality in defensive linemen for the 2009 draft class. BJ Raji is hopefully a bigger target now.

I don't think we are going to get a wiff of Raji (climbing the mocks lately), which leads me to think we'll take the OT that falls to us. If we are down to taking one of the OLB, I really think a tradeback is warranted.

As for losing Cole and losing out on Canty, do you Taters like paying filet mignon prices for a sirloin? Big frickin deal, and lets move on.
