This year had alot of new coaches come into the NFL and i heard alot of this comment come up. The new coach wants to have his qb leading the team. Chiefs get a former Pats coach as the new HC and right away he gets Cassell, new Denver coach wanted Cassell and it didn't work so he ended up dealing Cutler. Well you hear that all the time the coach wants his qb. That got me wondering if maybe the Brett fiasco was caused by MM and not TT. After all MM got here and had Rodgers sitting there. Maybe Rodgers was actually MM's qb he wanted to build the team around. Like i said this just got me thinking if it wasn't more MM than Ted Thompson pushing Brett out the door, after all it was MM that had the long talk with Brett before Brett was traded. Ted Thompson has made comments about how rough it was to sign the trade papers and MM has made no such comments other than the train has left and Brett isn't on it.

WTF i wonder if Raji put something in my ciggs that i'm actually defending TT.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

LOL, dhazer. You definitely never defend TT.

I think it may have some truth to it. The head coach (especially an offensive minded coach) wants to have control of their type of offense. They probably like molding a player to play it exactly the way they want.

McDaniels saw that Cassell could run his offense and be successful. It would be an easy transition. Cutler was an unknown.

McCarthy probably always wanted to run his offense with a more conservative approach with less of a gambling sense that Favre had.

I definitely see what you're saying, but I think it had to do more with seeing that AR was ready and that they were tired of Favre's offseason drama and his non-100%-committed attitude to playing.

It could be some of both. Plus the fact is, the switch had to be made sooner or later, and Favre's "retirement speech" sped everything up in my view. I think that was the point where MM and Ted Thompson said "Ok, AR is the guy now, we have to prepare knowing he will be our starting QB."
At that point, AR was told he was the guy, and it would have been hard (not impossible, but very hard) to change it back again.
They WERE prepared to do so when Favre said he wanted back, then backed out again.
That put the "nail in the coffin" in my view.

Denver not wanting Cutler shocked the heck out of me. He's been looking pretty darn good, and to even LOOK for a different starting QB HAD to feel like a slap in the face. Cutler is just into his prime, and to push him out seems pretty stupid to me.
The Denver fans must be having fits right now.

I am not sure if the coach wants their own guy, or the coach wants somebody who matches their demeanor. Rumours are that Jay is a bit of a hot-head with an attitude, similar to Philip Rivers. Maybe McDaniels did not want to deal with someone like that, where Shanahan could. I just think it was stupid to fail in their attempt trade for Cassell and not expect Jay to be upset as most reasonable people could expect this type of fallout. Athletes have huge egos and I can't blame Cutler for being pissed. I am pissed for him as I think Cassell will be a flop in KC without the great offensive line and WR weapons of New England.

The Favre fiasco was caused by fans who don't have a clue.

Favre quit football and was a crybaby about coming back.

McCarthy said in a press conference that it was his decision that Brett wouldn't be the QB of the Packers due to Brett's state of mind.

beast (8h) : I believe it's technically against the CBA rules, but Jerry just calls it a simple unofficial chat... and somehow gets away with it.
