As the offense takes the second year step from the McCarty era to the LaFleur system, what will it look like....who will it look like?

To clarify my question, are there a couple of team's offenses that we would resemble? SF? Tenn?

From what I am guessing, given the personnel drafted, we should expect more ball control and fewer explosive plays. Is this a fair assumption?

I believe it's going to look like 49ers and Rams offenses had a baby, except the baby has a much better QB.

The big difference is who they have as the slot receiver and blocker roles. Where 49ers use a receiving TE and mix the blocker up between TE and FB. Where the Rams use a large slot WR and a blocking TE.

I think Packers will do all the above and everywhere in between. With St. Brown, Sternberger and maybe Tonyan as the receiving role, while Lewis, Deguara and if he makes the roster, maybe Lovett as the blocker roles (which blocking roles are also sued as surprise, you weren't expecting them to actually run a route and get.open were you routes as well).

I think their will be more explosive plays.

  • First off, I don't think our opposing defenses will be as talented as they were less year (though got to watch that RT vs speed rushers, Vikings). But all the division rivals also lost starting CBs, though some drafted some in the 1st round, you think they'll be ready for Rodgers and Adams as a rookie?

  • The players better understand the system with a 2nd year in it.

  • Normally the slot receiving role becomes an absolutely star in this system, which Graham didn't do, St. Brown and Sternberger were mostly injured injured

  • Our speed guys, Ervin still hasn't had a single OTA in this system, but he was actually here from the start of the season, and by most reports MVS has always shown flashes, but needs to become most consistent playing at his best and some reports are suggesting he's stacking positive practices.

  • LaFleur said he wish he could have run more power last year, and I Williams has gotten quicker, and we added Dillion, so in theory we should be able to run more power plays successful.

  • We got an H-Back (or two), which last year when Rodgers was asked why they aren't running more huddle he said they (the team) aren't familiar enough with the system and they don't have the right parts to do no huddle in this system as they change formations so often, aka, they need more H-backs which can be WRs, TEs or FBs , which ever the play call calls for without swapping out players and the 3rd round TEs and possibly Lovett will be a huge part of that.

  • I do expect to see them running the ball more, but with more RB talent, they might be able to pound it more often without having to be concerned about RB depth lasting the whole game and keeping them fresh.

  • This scheme is about taking pressure off the QB, by making the RB a focal point, and using wide zone to get the DL moving east and west instead of north and south, then surprise with pass plays getting guys in one on ones, with getting the RB one on one with a LB being a huge thing, as RBs normal can give LBers a hard time one on one. Not to mention, using the H-backs to cause confusion, as to which one is doing what, which one is blocking and which one is running the route, or are they both blocking or both going on routes.
