Collins to continue workout boycott
Safety Nick Collins still isnt participating in the Green Bay Packers offseason program and indications are he wont be showing up anytime soon.

Unhappy that the Packers havent initiated talks about extending his contract, Collins plans to remain at home in Florida while most of his teammates work out at Lambeau Field.

A source close to Collins said he has no plans to report for the voluntary workouts in the foreseeable future, at least not until an effort is made by the Packers to begin contract talks.

Collins agent, David Butz, was unavailable for comment. Its unclear whether Collins plans to report for the mandatory minicamp June 23-25 or risk being fined if he doesnt.

Packers General Manager Ted Thompson has already left the office for the day and has not returned a message.

Collins is in the final year of the original five-year contract he signed in 2005 after the Packers drafted him in the second round. His base salary for 2009 jumped to $3.045 million (up from $545,000) after an escalator clause kicked in.

The Packers began their offseason program on March 16. Collins remained at his offseason home in Florida and some believed it was because his wife was due with the couples third child. Collins wife had the baby a couple of weeks ago, but the source indicated that his absence has nothing to do with that.

I like Collins, but sorry, Jennings first. At least he isn't whining about shit. Err I should say, at least he's continuing his business like a professional.

I say sign Jennings then Collins. I don't think there's any point in holding out, because that would leave a bad impression on the front office, no?

maybe this is why we signed Smith from PGH ? Things that make you go hmmmmm. But i will say i'm getting sick of all these players that complain about their contracts. I didn't hear them complain when they first signed them. Play out your damn contract then look for the money.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

If that continues, then start Smith.

Chances are they will draft a safety later in the draft.

Not acceptable.

It's the agents these days. It is getting more out of hand with the early draft pick contracts. Something needs to be done across the board.

An NFL Career is realistically very short.

Do not blame the player.... Blame the agent.

Then after one blames the agent, blame the society, the market place, the economy, then the reality of the mortgage scam, then the government, then society again, then ask yourself a very simple question.

Have you NEVER NOT taken a better financial opportunity when it was presented to you?

My guess is NO in 88,5 % of the opportunities.

It is the Micro Economic Love Story called "Supply and Demand."

It made this country great, it promotes and rewards success.

It does not matter if it is a sofa, a garage door opener, a freaking new mouse trap, or a player in the NFL.

I have no bitch or complaint with anyone who is taking what the market will give them.... Especially Professional Football players who have a professional life expectancy of perhaps 4.5 years.

God knows most of them did not get a real education with that free ride in college.

RP, I have NO problem with the amount of money they make. Thats not the issue here. But he is under contract. He is property of the Packers. If he wants to explore his free agent options after this season, then more power to him. If the Vikings offer him $1 more and he wants to go there, more power to him.

But right now he is just acting like a spoiled little punk. There's a new scheme to learn. And he isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer anyway, so he needs to get his ass to GB.

I would HATE to have Anthony Smith as our #1 option at FS. I don't know how many of you watch the Steelers games but he got cooked regularly by receivers. Plus he got juked out by David Garrard in the playoff game, which turned into Garrard running into FG range, winning the game.

As long as this stays as only a voluntary workout boycott, I'm alright. NFL franchises have no loyalty to players so I don't mind players looking out for their long term future.... as long as they handle it properly.

Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : and because it's not a dynasty league (which makes a lot more sense to be ability to trade picks)
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Oh I know; I was just exploring and it blew my mind that you could trade picks because of the whole reordering thing
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Zero, I think I preferred my offer: your 1st for my 15th rounder
