It seems Ted Thompson does not like to stockpile draft picks for the future. He didn't pull the trigger to trade down with Clevland and get their #1 the following year. This year he could have tried to get the Pats 3 or 4 next year instead of their #5 now, with the Matthews trade. You can usually get a higher pick if you're willing to wait a year. It was said that we are at the point that we need more quality than quanity and that this years draft wasn't that strong. It would seem to make sense to stockpile for next year. There would more ammo to use for a trade up or pick a likely higher quality player.

Do you think Ted Thompson does not like to do this or is it something else?

Does anyone know who it was that the Packers selected with the Patriots' 5th rounder? Was it Quinn Johnson or Jamon Meredith? I'm happy that we have both of them...

What would we have had to give up for Clevelands 1 next year? Anything besides our 9 i think he was stupid. The browns will suck again this year and we could have ended up with 2 picks in the top 10 next year in alot better draft class.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

dhazer, I need to be more clear. That trade was available when we drafted Harrell. The Cowgirls took it and drafted Felix Jones last year with Clevland's #1. That and the Matthews trade were just two examples I thought of.

the thinking could be more along the lines that Ted Thompson needs to get some results quickly to make sure he'll still be around for the draft next year.

on another note, i've heard the a lot of the talking heads say we had the best draft out of everybody. of course that doesn't really mean anything right now, mostly because the draft seems like a big fucking guessing game. it is nice to hear though.

that's the way i think, too. in my opinion meredith was the best value pick of the packers draft, so if Ted Thompson got a good starter at OT out of this pick i don't care at all if it was one 3rd or two he spent.

The general view is that a first next year is equal to a 2nd this year. Same as last year, when Ted traded out last pick for a 6th this year.

Ted has basically said he doesn't like messing with future picks... not giving them up nor getting them. I'm not sure why...

I'm not big on giving up future picks for I like stock piling them.
