RB Jones reworking deal to stay with Packers

Running back Aaron Jones will be staying with the Green Bay Packers after reaching an agreement Friday on an $11 million salary for the 2023 season that includes an $8.52 million signing bonus, his agents, Drew Rosenhaus and Ryan Matha, told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Including the coming season, Jones will have made $31 million since 2021, second most among running backs behind only Christian McCaffrey.
Jones, 28, will still have two years remaining on his contract under the new agreement.

Last season, Jones posted his third 1,000-yard rushing campaign since 2019, finishing with a career-high 1,121 yards while compiling seven total touchdowns (2 rushing, 5 receiving).

No matter what our QB situation is next year, this is a good thing. Nice that he helped the team and re-worked his deal. Thinking he could have made more by forcing us to release him, but I am not exactly sure as to how much was guaranteed to him on his old deal.

So that's a 9mil savings.

I still think they can get it lower, but that's just a guess.

The numbers are from a Shefter article, so there's that.

I love Jones. Not only is he a good player he's a wonderful human. He cares for the team. He's not afraid to take it on his shoulders.
With his original cap hit they were going to have to release him. I've wanted him to be a Packer forever. Now I think he can.

In exchange, Jones guaranteed money in 2023 was $0 before and now's it's an $8.52 million signing bonus.

So prior, the Packers would.of saved $16 million by cutting.or trading him, and now it'd be $2.48 million, so they're not releasing or cutting him in 2023.

As for cap, that just confuses people, especially when the NFL is adding this fake years in to spread it out... Jones signed a 5 year deal, three of those years are fake, they're just spreading the cap over 5 years. Cap is bullshit accounting... now the actual money, follow the actual money to figure out what's actually going on.
