I don't know it sure didn't take some around here long to forget we won more regular season games in '07 then ever before in team history.

To be precise, when the NFL went to 16 games, '07 was our 3rd time we won 13 games in a regular season. We've also won 13 games in a 14 game season at least once. I'll have to look it up how many times.

The thing is, how can you not expect some fans to be pissed when a team goes from 14-4 to 6-10? I'm one of them, and I have every right to be pissed. I want wins, not losses.

In 1929, we went undefeated. This was several years before Mercury Morris and his "neighborhood".

If he wasn't so busy being an arrogant prick, he would have taken the time to learn his NFL history.

(OK, I give him the tie, but remind him that ties did not count either for or against in the standings at the time, and it still doesn't change the fact that we were undefeated, either way.)

So if he becomes a good Play Caller we go from the top ten on offense to #1 and what, win every game by 20 points?

About all I can see here is he got conservative down in the redzone a few times on the calls. I will say looking at the big picture, however, he was not so much that way the previous year with Favre who he knew better in terms of what he could do in those situations vs. Arod being the first year with him.

From that I would say MM felt a little more compelled to draw back a little on the risk taking and would expect a little more out of the play calling in those cases this year.

But as far as an overall offensive mind from a game planning and strategy standpoint and getting over opposing defenses this guy is a good one. I can tell you this if we fired him at 11:00 tonight you could read what team snapped him up with your early coffee in the morning. Maybe sooner.

MM was superb in '07.

I'm hoping we get the '07 MM and not the '08 pussy version of MM.

Wasn't our O-line a lot healthier in 07? I think McCarthey kind of had his hands tied by having Tony Moll at RT and a 60% Wells at center.

O-line is one area on our team that I agree with the Tators on. Ted has not invested enough in an o-line that could hit the ground running. There are adequate players, just young and inexperienced. It would be nice to be able to grind out the wins, especially in Nov and Dec.

OK. You have a bad OL. Then you compensate for it with a very quick release or screen passes. Instead, when we got into the red zone, MM ran the ball twice and passed on 3rd and 8. Then we kicked FGs.

Not the way to win ballgames.

I think the problem for McCarthy last year in some of these games boiled down to the inconsistant pass blocking. The prime scenario for this came against Houston after we got screwed on the holding call backing the ball up to the 30+ yard line. McCarthy does call pass there and Arod never has a chance. Sack. Out of FG range.

Against the Vikings Arod got the dog pressured out of him the whole game. You can say well, throw it quick then, but you don't think the Vikes know that's all he's going to be able to do and won't be ready for it? I could see what McCarthy was worried about there. We send Arod back to pass and he get's sacked we're out of FG range. I mean that was going on the whole game. Clifton barely touched Allen that night.

I thought the Bears game was more of a clock management decision. When your inside the opposing 30 with under two minutes to go you run the clock down but hope somebody breaks loose. You throw a couple incomplete passes there even if you then hit the FG you leave the other team with time for a FG to win. I absolutely believe McCarthy calls this differently if there were three, four minutes left in this game.

I don't think this makes him a bad or conservative play caller at all. He called the three plays in those two games that with the time left and circumstances gave the team the best and most realistic chance to win.
