And yes, I have a trade down addition as a certain percentage of players always seem to disappoint, so I like quality. Though I've been liking the mid-20s a bit more lately, but I expect Gute will trade up a bit and get to the very late teens or early 20s if he can.
I think the Packers will request that CB Jaire Alexander take a pay cut, depending on how that goes, they might release him, or might keep him to see how he is in training camp. Though, I also wouldn't be surprised to see the Packers sign a FA that one of the coaches have some connection too, which includes but not limited to the Chargers and Jets CBs.
A number of the 6th and 7th are surprisingly to fall that far to me, and might be taken earlier in the actual draft.
Onto the Mock:
1.32) CB Barren
Extremely versatile, as he's been used outside, in the nickel and even in the box, as a coverage LB role. Doesn't have great length, but has shown great skills in zone coverage and run defense. Some believe he's be an absolute star in the slot role.
2.56) DE Ivey
This draft seems extremely deep at DL, normally I don't think someone with Ivey's potential would fall this far, a fairly athletic 6'6" 285 LB, that has been used at DT in certain pass rush packages, but Van Ness would be better inside than Ivey. Ivey has a ton of potential, but he's still needs some development, but the flashes of upside potential are too good not to try to develop.
2.64) CB Alexander
Outside CB only, but he has the length, to go in press man, with coverage skills for man or zone and willing to fight in the run game. Good quickness, but not great speed, but with his length and smart he can get his hands on a WR and slow them down without getting a flag.
3.88) RG Ratledge
For years, Ratledge has been one of the pass blocking OGs in college, and after Georgia's Center was drafted, Ratledge was preparing to play Center this year until someone else on the team stepped up enough they felt comfortable keeping Ratledge at RG. So he MIGHT also be able to play Center. He did improve his run blocking this year.
5.138) OL Monheim
Has over 700 snaps at RT, LT and C, and over 300 snaps at RG. Packers love versatile linemen and Monheim has been the definition of that in college. His best season came at RT. But he after a rough start, he knocked the rust off, improving a lot and looked pretty good at Center in 2024.
6. 198) OT Pierce
Not saying he will, but Piece MIGHT be selected in the top 3 rounds. He's absolutely massive man at 6'8" 340+ and like most of the ultra massive guys, he doesn't have the best quickness, but you still have to go extra far to get around him, and all he's done is made a good improvement each and every year, including getting his weight way down, as he used to be a lot heavier. Teams that go for size and don't mind the lack of quickness as much, might absolutely love everything about him, on and off the field.
7. 224) QB Dart
There is no QB Willis in this draft, but I think Dart might be close, one year as the 3rd QB and then becoming the #2 QB if Willis leaves in FA.
7. 225) CB Bryant
I believe Bryant is dropping on the big board because he's under 180 lbs, but based on PFF, he has an elite run defensive score, and is above average in zone and man coverage. Though Gute seems to stick to his sizes, and I believe he's only gone slightly under 195lb twice, one for Jaire Alexander, and a late round DB. So Bryant will probably be off Gute's big board, but I think it's worth the risk of he falls enough.
7. 247) DT Slackman
Very very good year in 2022, great year in 2023 and then a year full of injuries and average play in 2024. If you ignore the 2024 year, and draft him based on '22 and '23 years, I think think he could be a pretty high round pick. He would be an absolute steal here, even if he busts, taking the shot at the food years is a no brainier at this point.
7. 248) LB Gbenda
Gbenda is undersized, at only 5'11", so he might be off of Gute's board but Gbenda is still listed at 235 which is normal ILB weight these days. Also Gbenda appears to be more athletic than average, doing well in coverage and run stopping, but poor the few times he was asked to pass rush. But use him as a coverage LB and STer.
7. 249) WR Brooks
If you only look at his highlights, you could easily swear he'd be going much higher (and he might be), as he's 6'2", fast and very athletic. But despite having all the physical upside, Brooks might still drop due to a ton of inconsistency. While he can absolutely make the highlight plays, he can also miss them with easy drops, or other things going wrong too often enough. But with Watson most likely to miss the start of next year, I figure we could absolutely use a tall speedster even if we mostly just use him as a deep decoy.
