In the purely technical sense, Pack93z has the winner. Dobler was intentionally dirty, and is probably numero uno in that department on most lists.

I still say Butkus, because he did all those dirty things also, but he just plain, flat intimidated everyone with his insanity on the field. He wasn't really terribly interested in the rules when he got himself whipped into a froth. Dobler was dirty, but he didn't really know how to scare folk. Butkus didn't know how to not scare the shit out of everyone...He probably scared himself upon reflection.

The damn refs were afraid of him. That is some serious "not right in the head".

Edit--

I remember they had a talk with some of his former teammates about some of the stuff that had already been talked about by some of the opponents that faced him. They all said the same thing about him.
You see, in those interviews, opposing players would talk about how many injuries they would incur when playing the Bears...due to legal and illegal stuff that he would do both while the play was on, and in "the pile". What his teammates wanted everyone to know is that THEY were not exempt in those piles. Dick would bite THEM, he would break THEIR fingers...they knew better than their opponents to get the hell out of his way when he was "off", and they learned this the hard way. Ya gotta love a guy that is that crazy. :thumbleft:

I think Rodney Harrison should be in this discussion. He was definitely considered 'dirty' in my opinion.

I guess I'm too young to mention all of these 'older' (no offense) players, because I never saw them play.

I was going to bring up Conrad he is always known as the dirtiest player and he loves it. He used to used to have a cast on his hand that looked like a club and he wasn't afraid of using it as a weapon.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

This topic isn't fair in that players played by different sets of rules in different eras. If you go in the last decade, my list includes

Romanowski
John Lynch - yeah he liked to hit a guy a millisecond before the whistle blew, when he was already tackled.
Wysniewski
The Denver Bronco O-line under Shanahan
Fat ass Siragusa for his dislocation of Rich Ganon's shoulder
The guy that invented Palmerizing - Steeler DT.
Soon to be Jared Allen if he keeps taking out quarterbacks knees and hitting QB's in the head.

There are two things that you will NEVER get a Packer fan and a Viking fan to agree upon ...to a degree that BOTH will stick to their guns like snot sticks where flicked.

!. Those tampering charges were legit. Perhaps not provable, but legit.

2. Your boy Jared is a loud-mouthed criminal that should be incarcerated for his dirty play.

(Same deal)

What?! Dave, you are losing it, my friend!

First off, I agree with you, 100%. Those tampering charges WERE legit. It was proven that the Packers filed against the Vikings. (That would be the tampering charges). But, in case you forgotten, I'll remind you.. After investigating said charges, the NFL ruled in favor of MY team. Therefore, while the charge of tampering was legit, the actual ACT of tampering was proven to be false.

Second, everything you just said was opinion backed by no evidence. Criminal? Like Jolly? Nope. Actually, Jared's last infraction was in, what? 2006-07. That's 2 to 3 years ago. Get over it. 🙂 I agree, he's loud mouthed.. Like a few of you are here. Heh. And his dirty play? I can't deny the fines, and the meet-n-greet the Commish had with Allen. But I still stand by his intentions were never to give out cheap shots. I stand by the notion that he's a guy that doesn't stop, no matter on his hands and knees or on his feet, until the ref blows the whistle. I think you Pack fans are just jealous that you don't have a single player that does that for your defense. =)

My dear Puker friend,
I'm not shaking my head. I'm actually more dumbfounded by your sudden intelligentless post. You gotta do better than that, old man.

You guys go ahead with the long standing theme of making excuses for that bunch of crooks and ne'er do wells. I understand it is so very traditional to do so in the land of effeminate team colors. Hell, if you didn't, you would have no one left to root for at all.

Crooks, cheaters, liars and dirty loud-mouthed players. Pretty much sums up the Vikes.

Let's take a poll.

TheKanataThrilla (52m) : NFL Network is broadcasting the game tonight, but not in Canada. Not sure why as no local television is showing the game.

beast (20h) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Zero- Did you see what I posted about Voice of Reason and his wife? She posted over at fleaflicker that they are both "In"
Zero2Cool (7-Aug) : Well, not crazy, it makes sense. Crazy I didn't notice/find it earlier

Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Oh I know; I was just exploring and it blew my mind that you could trade picks because of the whole reordering thing
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Zero, I think I preferred my offer: your 1st for my 15th rounder
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Keep in mind, we do a draft reorder once all members locked in
