I think when a Team cuts a player, and that player is signed by another team, well, that is a sign of "Good Depth." at that position. You know...... The opposite of when a cut is never heard of again.

The Jets signed Nevin McCaskill today.

I reckon my question is... The Packers Cut McCaskill (A Youngin at 24 years old.) What's your feeling people on the progress the O-Line is making since last year? Is this a good sign? How do you feel about our depth on the O-Line?

I have been very busy work wise lately and have not been reading a great deal about what has been going on. I would love your thoughts, as you are all much wiser than I in your Football/Packer knowledge.

I doubt that your last statement is true, but here's my two cents.

I think that there's nothign wrong with the depth of our O-line position. Ted Thompson has been picking up 2nd-7th round linemen like crazy in the draft. We have young guys we can plug in at nearly all positions along the O-line.

The problem I have is that we don't have any elite players. Tauscher and Clifton are declining bigtime. Tauscher might not even be back. I really hope that these guys have been progressing into viable starters, but the signs wheren't that great last year. That's one of the main reasons why I would've liked Ted Thompson to trade up 3 picks before Matthews and get us Oher. That's a whole different story, though....

McCaskill is probably a camp body at best for the Jets. He won't make their final roster. I think it just shows the Packers are comfortable with the players they've got going into camp and wanted to use his roster spot somewhere else.

This will probably be Clifton's last year in Green Bay. I could see Tauscher signing a one year deal with someone part of the way into the regular season once he's fully recovered from his ligament tear. I personally would rather give the young guys a shot then continue with aging players holding they hope up. We need to find their replacements eventually. Hopefully we've already got them on the roster.

I think the packers have great, maybe amazing depth on the o-line. I don't think they had many or any clear cut great players, but they have wonderful depth. This is of course in my opinion, more of a bad than a good thing. I really hope some of the young guys really step it up this year and set them selves apart from the crowd.

Wasnt Wahle hanging by a thread to keep his job?

I sure hope they play well this year. The one big weakness I see with Ted Thompson is that he has never fielded one consistently good o line.

Everything from A-Rod's struggle in fourth quarters to our lack of a run game are directly related to our o-line's inconsistent play.

That was pretty much what I said in my next sentence, but in a more pessimestic way. I know that these guys can still become very good players, but the chances of succeeding aren't getting any bigger with time. Especially not after the horrible performances of players like Tony Moll and Colledge at guard. Might be arguable, but I wasn't too happy with their performance.

Here is my honest concern with our offensive line under the current position coaches.. they haven't developed one consistent player yet.

We have had three years of work under Colledge, Spitz and Moll.. and not one of them lines up plays consistent starting quality line play. We haven't seen it yet.. and it isn't just these 3.. there have been a number of other players that have walked through the doors as well.

That has troubled me from 07 on.. yes the quasi ZBS scheme hasn't helped, but damn it... it isn't that hard to teach a player to keep his ass down, play with leverage consistently. Of course there is more to it than that.. but damn it, we can't even get those basics down consistently.

Probably sounds harsh.. but it is reality. This offensive line has been up and down more than a working girl on a steamy Saturday night in Amsterdam's Red Light district.

The hope for me though is TJ Lang, and a new approach from MM and staff.. no more musical chairs with shifting guys from position to position.

As far as the Jets picking up our cuts.. everyone needs camp bodies and hidden gems.. maybe they had scouted him coming out of college and thought he was worth a look.. because their isn't much NFL footage to make an opinion from.
