Ex-Giant Burress pleads guilty in weapons case

By KAREN MATTHEWS (AP) 15 minutes ago

NEW YORK Former New York Giant Plaxico Burress pleaded guilty to a weapons charge and agreed to a two-year prison term for accidentally shooting himself at a Manhattan nightclub.

The ex-wide receiver pleaded guilty Thursday morning to one count of attempted criminal possession of a weapon, a lesser charge than he initially faced. Under a plea agreement, he agreed to a two-year prison sentence and two years of supervised release.

Burress was indicted earlier this month on two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and one count of reckless endangerment. He faced a minimum sentence of 3 1/2 years if convicted at a trial.

Burress' sentencing is set for Sept. 22.

And yet Stallworth gets 30 days for manslaughter.

How could Burress get 1 year and 11 months more than Stallworth for just carrying a weapon illegally?

Love the way that NFL.com has put this down. Like it's a voluntary contract or something.

Absolutely absurd how long he has to be in jail with regards to a couple of the manslaughter cases. As everyone said Stallworth got 30 days which I believe got knocked down for good behavior. Leonard Little years ago killed a single mother while he was driving drunk and he got shit despite being on probation already. There is something horribly wrong with all of this.

Let me preface what I'm about to say by saying Burress was a bonehead of the first degree in the incident in question.

But for the life of me I cannot understand why more football fans -- who, being more testosterone-driven and more pro-2nd amendment than the national average -- haven't jumped all over the insanity of this NYC law.

Oh, I understand NYers going for such a law -- this is the state that was first in the nation in welcoming with open arms the re-incarnation of reverse carpetbagging politics (i.e. our current stateless Secretary for foreign affairs and world "expert" on villages, health care, and anything else she wants).

But c'mon. Hell, if you are going to throw a guy in jail for carrying a "dangerous weapon" without the proper piece of paper, why the eff don't you throw all those New York drivers who daily put more people at risk on roads than Plaxico Bonehead will with his Glock or whatever in the rest of his partying life.

Frankly, every time I see a story about Burress I want to :xcensoredx: :xcensoredx: the whole :xcensoredx: :xcensoredx: :xcensoredx: East Coast.

But then i remember. Not to worry. There are plenty of East Coasters to do that :xcensoredx: to themselves.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

That, and this goes to prove how jacked up our Justice system is.

And Obama wants to try all those prisoners from Guantanamo Bay in the same Justice system?!

Scary.

Not really.

Anyway, my stance on legal arms etc. is quite different that most people here, (Commie-like, if you ask Formo), but I agree with Wade here. If you have a 2nd amandement which legalizes possesion of arms for your citizens, why do you go and make such a big fuzz about these papers. Of course, not everyone should have a rocket launcher laying around, but I can imagine that hand guns where the kinds of pistols that would perfectly fit into legal possesion.

And as to his 2 years in prison. I think that's about right. It's not like Stallworth got what he deserved. He got off way too easy. That doesn't mean that Plaxico should get off even easier because his crime wasn't as bad a Stallworth's.
