I'm not talking about overtime.

I've always been a fan of kicking off and letting the defense setting the tone for your team. But most of the coaches I've been around tend to taking the ball all the time.... but if your defense is better shouldn't you kick it away?

And as said here

http://packershome.com/index.php?name=ForumsPro&file=viewtopic&t=6044

"Coach McCarthy said we (are not) an offensive football team - we are a defensive football team," said Packers receiver James Jones.

So if this is true... shouldn't Mike McCarthy kick it off if he wins the coin toss? (I'm not talking about over time)

usually I think Mike McCarthy wants the ball.

What would you choose if you were the head coach?

Awesome thread, +1 to you.

I prefer getting the ball to start the 2nd half, unless the weather dictates that you should have it with you in the 4th quarter.

I always like kicking off first as the choice.

It seems to me more often than not the team that kicks off the first half end up with the last possession in the 2nd quarter.

If you can score a TD then, receive the opening kickoff to the second half and score a TD on that drive as well it's 14 unanswered points which can be a game changer.

That's my point... you can score at the end of the 2nd and get the ball kicked ball back to you in starting the 3rd.

Also put your best unit on the field. Right now that seems to be the defense.

The answer is both. Depending on the situation..

If the team I'm playing has a weak offense, and I have the confidence that my defense will stop them. I would kick. If I'm correct, the other team will punt/turn the ball over on the 1st possession. And it would be just like getting the ball first in both halves.

If not, I would receive. Momentum is a bit underrated in football, probably because of how 1 play can change an entire game, but if I can jump out to a 7-0 lead before the other team's offense takes the field. It forces them to play catch-up.

Just my 2 cents :thumbleft:

well on madden i always decide to kick just in case i can get a last minute score ill get the ball back again in the 2nd to build off the momentum, it always works on madden so i dont know lol

Opening kick off, kick.

Overtime, receive.

Take the ball before the players forget the scripted plays 🙂

If the coaches consider us a defensive team, then they should be kicking off at the start of every game. Let the D set the tempo and get the ball back to start the 2nd half (I love deferring anyway).
