You wonder why?

Check out the screen pass to Adrian Peterson in the 4th Q. of yesterday's game that went for big yardage.

One guess as to who didn't do his job properly on that play.

I'll gladly take Hawk as a Nickel LB than Bishop. Bishop will have a few more opportunities with Chillar being out, but I pray he is confined to the base D.

Thank you for pointing this out! +1

He saw a screen forming and instead of trying to stop it at the beginning of the play or cut it off after the pass what does he do? Picks up a blocker??!!

It couldn't be that Hutchinson, a yearly ALL PRO made a nice play there eh?

The knock I heard on Bishop is that he can't cover.. yet he made a nice play 15 yards down the field.

Bishop lost contain on that play.. so again one play makes the entire ball game.

Bishop forced that fumble from Robison and had good coverage on Shiancoe when he was out there.

93z, my point is that Bishop is weak in coverage.

When you see a screen pass, you should not attempt to run into - and overpower - said probowl G.

The problem is that with Bishop at LB, we are more susceptible to giving up big passing plays than with other LBs.

There is a reason Bishop does not play Nickel. We saw why, again, on that one play.

I'm all for giving Bishop reps in the base D. But considering we play our base D a littler more than a handful of times, Bishops snap count seems about right to me.

He took the correct angle on that play as I remember it, face it, Bishop isn't going to win a foot race with AP.. none of our backers are.

Hutch got deep enough on that play to make a block.. it was a hell of a play call in that situation.

As far as Bishop being a liability, I seem to recall him making a coverage play down the field.. yet you don't mention credit there.

I am not saying he is going to be perfect, Lord knows Barnett and Hawk aren't..

Point to me on Bishop.. he is the most aggressive in the box player we have.. and until we have a larger enough body of work to judge his coverage skills upon, it is debatable at the best. I don't know how good or bad he is or isn't, but I can see what Hawk, Barnett and Chillar bring to the table. The linebacker play overall for the past two weeks has been solid.. if that becomes normal week in and out stuff... great.. if not, you tinker with things until it gets there.

I am pretty sure that he caused the fumble on that short kick off..

I forget when he got in there, but it seems like once he was in, that is when our defense seemed to be doing better

I don't think its necessarily that Bishop can't defend the pass he's just a little inconsistant. When they send Mathews that LB HAS to keep track of the RB.

I am not so sure it was because Hutchinson is that good, which he is, more than Bishop took his eye off Peterson for that one extra second that allowed the guard to get to him and for Peterson to get by him.

This is one of the plays that probably went through Capers mind over and over BEFORE the game was ever played and why he is cautious of when he brings the blitz.

I said on friday before I left for the weekend that the ILB'rs were going to have to come up big because if they are going to get after Favre those guys had to be spot on their assignments.

I also thought Bishop played fairly well but it was unfortunate at that time of the game and for the D to let that play happen at such a critical time and when he did not at least get in Petersons way well....that's the difference between the teams that make the plays when they need to make them and ultimately decides who wins.
