More honors for Matthews

Rookie linebacker Clay Matthews got a game ball from McCarthy and on Wednesday hell pick an even bigger honor: NFC defensive player of the week.

Its the same honor that Packers cornerback Charles Woodson won last week, and it could help Matthews in the race for defensive rookie of the year.

Matthews had two sacks, a forced fumble and six tackles in Mondays win over Baltimore.

He won the game ball on defense, so I think that tells you what we felt about his performance this past week against the Ravens, McCarthy said.

i love that we're winning these things on the first year the 3-4 is implemented!!

32 Teams. 13 weeks of football.

We currently have won the defensive player of the week 3 times and defensive player of the month 2 times. Now that is pretty great.

Love that Matthews is showing his dominance, already. He's not the most skilled rusher (right now), but he just keeps going and going. At least 3.0 sacks can be attributed to his high motor and pure determination. Love the guy.

ya I admit at the draft I was floored by what we traded for the guy. And then when he had the hamstring injury I thought they were going to sit him for a year or only partially play him... I kept thinking about all the draft picks wasted.

Now - Im one big smile when I think about matthews as our ROLB.

I liked his move when he went down the middle and chased flacco out of the pocket (even thou didnt pull a sack he made him move and err 'forgot what happened').

I hope he is with us his entire career, if he's like his father we will see him playing 19 years from now :thumbleft:
