Gotta give credit to Dan Patrick for the idea.

To me, its easy. I want to be the starter. Money is important, but its not everything.

If you are the starting qb for a NFL team, you can date whoever the hell you want. As a back up, yeah, you'll get laid, but Maria Sharapova isn't going to date a back up qb.

Thoughts?

Starter. I'm too competitive to sit on the bench. Unless there's circumstances that we mention.. like if it means I'm starting on a horsecrap team.. Maybe I'll ride the pine. Or if the team is a Super Bowl bound team, I'm willing to ride the pine.

But take away all those circumstances.. I'd much rather play.

starter -

for those philosophers the question was asked - if you had everything you ever wanted; what would you do then? ...
and the answer may be - to realize that the things that you truely wanted were not the things on the outside but on the inside.

Backup at $10 million or whatever contract gives me the most guaranteed money. The moment someone realizes that their backup QB has no significant football experience and injury-prone legs/knees, my ass is gone.

Assuming I have starter-quality skills and experience? Probably a starter, although can I be traded and become a starter with another team if I take the 10 mil?

I'd be a starter at my current salary before being a backup at any salary.

To be perfectly fair though, if you weren't magically given NFL-caliber skills you would quickly go down in the books as the worst NFL quarterback ever. If you got no skill increase as part of this scenario, wouldn't you want to ride the bench? You'd get killed on and off the field.

It's kind of like one of those "asshole genie" scenarios. If you're not being very specific with your wishes, you're leaving yourself open to unintended consequences.

To me I would take the starter job, you do a good job and you will eventually make more than 10 million a year.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Or you could start out as the backup, be there when the starter goes down, and go on to make much more than the $10 million a year when you take over for him.

As for the argument that a backup quarterback wouldn't get as much pussy, all I have to say is that if you can't get laid as a backup NFL quarterback, you might as well cut off your dick and feed it to your dog, because you wouldn't be able to get laid as a starting quarterback either. If you think Maria Sharapova wouldn't date a backup QB, spend some time on IMDb and see how many famous, beautiful actresses are married to absolute nobodies: makeup artists and guys with a single production supervisor credit to their names. It happens everyday. Women care first and foremost about how you make them feel -- about themselves, about life. Everything else is secondary.

If it were really true that Maria Sharapova wouldn't date a backup, why would you want to date her anyway? There are far hotter women in the world.

Maria Sharapova is a 6'1" natural blonde with a history of winning. Yes, she's not the prettiest girl in the world from a purely aesthetic standpoint but she's sexy as they come. She's on my top 10.

Agreed about the dating. If you take hot & famous women, a lot of them are married to guys that simply looked them in the eyes the right way and listened emphatically. You put two Type A people together in a marriage and it almost always ends with the D word. Why do you think Hollywood couples never last?

Now back to the original point, I'd be the backup. I'd much rather be able to walk down to the grocery store and buy whatever I want without a hundred people asking for my autograph. Being rich and not recognizable, that's awesome. Much better than fame. Fame is for the insecure.

Yes, it's a dream for many to be a starter. I respect that. That shows drive & ambition, two traits I admire in people. Me? I'd rather have good knees and make the big bucks and pat the starter on the back after he threw a marvelous TD pass.

Starters get hurt. Fact of life. Say what you want about being tough & all that jazz but I'd rather be able to walk in my 70s on my cruise ship with my mistresses. You tough guys go beat each other up. I'll be in my compound with the ladies.
