I thought I'd never forgive the guy for playing for the Queens, but I felt the booing when he came off the field was a disgrace, so maybe time will heal the wounds. Even I had to say I respected his performance on Sunday night (almost as much as I respected the D's performance, which was truly one of the gutsiest things I can remember seeing).

For fucksake, people, why is this so complicated? Is there a single player on the Vikings' squad that diehard Packers fans would cheer as he was walking off the field? Why should a special exception be made for Brett Favre?

No, it wouldn't be "cool" if they did that. It would be stupid. They're Packers fans, not Brett Favre-4-life fans.

I agree that he doesn't deserve to be cheered by Packer fans, but I understand why some people feel he should've been cheered. That's pretty common for an athlete who returns to a place where he played a lot of years and had a lot of success before going to another team. Some people are willing to overlook the circumstances of his leaving (or they just don't have a problem with what he did) and others are not.

I understand, Greg, but to me the history of this situation irrelevant. It has nothing to do with overlooking the circumstances of his departure. I don't begrudge Brett Favre playing for the Vikings any more than I hold it against Ryan Longwell. By the same token, I couldn't care less that Darren Sharper plays for New Orleans or Aaron Kampman plays for Jacksonville. I wouldn't cheer any of them as they came off the field in Lambeau because they are not Packers. They play for the other team. It has nothing to do with holding a grudge or forgiving past insults. I wouldn't cheer for a rookie on the Vikings, not because he's committed some unforgivable offense but because he's on the opposing team. Neither would I cheer for former Packers now playing for that team.

Now obviously, I am a good sport, so I'll applaud the injured player coming off the field, etc.

Under that theory, the Chicago Bulls fans shouldn't have cheered Michael Jordan when he came back as a Wizard or the Philly fans shouldn't have cheered McNabb when he came back to Philadelphia. Even the Knicks fans cheered Reggie Miller in his last game in MSG even though he was never a Knick and beat them numerous times.

I don't think its as a big deal as you think about cheering a player on another team. You wouldn't be cheering for the Vikings, it just would have been a nice moment. That's all. Your entitled to boo him but I really don't think its a big deal to cheer out of respect for a player on a different team.

I never said I would boo him. More often than not, I think booing is lame. I just said I wouldn't cheer for him.

But there was a noticeable difference on how people booed Brett vs Longwell vs the remainder of the team.

I am not a fan of booing anyone.. just my stance on it. I certainly didn't cheer for him, and I wanted to see his ass on the ground, don't mind that he will "feel" this game for a while.. but to highlight the reaction towards him singularly... didn't like it.

BTW.. I am not buying your Brett is no different than another former Packer with the history of your posts here. It is different.. there are probably a couple hundred posts to support that. lol.

I don't like Brett Favre -- I don't hide that. I didn't like him for the past few years he was in Green Bay (more or less the years I could watch the games instead of listening on the radio). My dislike of him has nothing to do with the fact he left the Packers. I was eager for the Packers to dispose of him and move on with a new era. So I'm not sure where your point comes from.

Where.. from the fact that you clearly have more of an emotional investment in Favre than any other of the former players mentioned.. and it bleeds through your posts. Point is.. he isn't like the others.. you clearly despise Favre.

And to be clear.. there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.. just doesn't fit for me. Neither did clearly booing Brett vs the rest of the team in purple.

I was tired of the Brett hype machine as well.. just as I grew tired over the Montana, Elway, Young, Marino, Aikman ones before him. None of them were gods.. they all had flaws in their games and none of them were as good as they were hyped to be.

I don't like how he has used the system to fulfill his desire to settle a personal fracas with Thompson via the opposition.. I don't like how he uses the system to his benefit and being treated special like royalty.

But I don't hate him.

I hold Brett accountable for his actions as part of the uncomfortable end of his career in Green Bay.. and I will never feel sorry for him in the least little bit.

But that doesn't warrant treating him like a leper and someone that was bad for Green Bay and the Packers.

He is human.. he has flaws.. he probably directly contributed to losses for the Packers.. but he certainly did more good for the Packers than harm.

I don't hate Brett Favre in the least. I don't even have all that much emotional investment in him, my posts to the contrary. (Most of my posts on this board are over-the-top abrasive, you know that.) He annoys me a bit, but mostly it's the sycophants around him who get on my nerves. There are certainly a lot of members on this board who wish all sorts of dire fats on Favre, but I am not one of them. I just wish he'd go away. The only reason I have stronger feelings toward him than the other players I mentioned is that people won't stop talking about him. If people bobbed Aaron Kampman's or Ryan Longwell's knobs the way they do with Favre, I'd be just as outspoken against it. All the gods have feet of clay, and I think it's healthy to keep that in mind.
