No Pack93z. I said we BETTER be able to run against the Giants as they're #1 against the pass in the NFL. But Cheesey was talking the Atlanta game and only the Atlanta game. He said so specifically in the title.

Here.. I will agree.. passing on the Falcons vs their secondary and somewhat weak pass rush.. I agree.. but that still doesn't mean we don't need to develop a running game to correct the issues we seen last Sunday.

When you get down to the 1 yd line, it's awful tough to throw for a TD (not impossible, just tougher because of all of the defenders crammed into such a small area). We need to be able to trust our RBs to make that yard, instead of having AR carrying the running game load, too (which led to a fumble).

Personally, I'd like to see Lang used similar to the way Barry was used in Sherman's U-71 power-running package, along with Wells, Sitton, and Bulaga on the right, then run the ball in that direction and see how much those guys can move the pile back. And I'd use Nance (or alternatively, Starks), someone to hit the hole hard for that 1-2 yards needed.

And it's still my opinion that Zombie should upgrade his avatar to your picture in this thread.

Lang (Tackle Eligible) was in the game on the fumble play if I remember correctly.. just went the other way..

I'm sure there are other correlations, too (team that turns the ball over less/forces opponent to turn over the ball more = wins is probably a pretty good correlation), but in each of those cases, you should strive to achieve the effects that correlate to a win.

"macbob" wrote:

lol. I left out the most critical correlation:

The team that scores less than the other team does loses 100% of the time.

We should try and avoid that.

Brett Favre did it all the time and had a very high success rate. Let's not forget that before Ahman Green, we didn't have a pound it in from the 1-yard line guy. You have to work with what you have.

That's why I was asking in the other thread "what happened to Kuhn?" He wasn't used in those situations. If not, then we better be able to complete a 1-yard pass for a TD.

How come Favre was so good at it and we can't do it today? I think Favre from '94-97 was the best QB there ever was, but in the 2000s, Aaron is a better QB except for '09 and '07. Aaron should be able to complete a 1-yard TD pass most of the time, especially with defenders knowing full well that Aaron is the 2nd best scrambling QB in the NFL and can at any moment run it in.

Now, is it because Finley is injured? Is that why we're so reluctant to throw from the 1-yard line?

I'm asking because I don't know. And I didn't hear MM answer my question about Kuhn either.

To make it clear, I'm talking Atlanta because we will be facing them in the CG in Atlanta. I can guarantee we'll be 3 to 1 pass/run in that game (not including running out the clock in the 4th Q if we have a lead).

We DID throw it on 1st & goal, remember? Ball was underthrown (I think it was intended for the deep receiver), Quinn Johnson tipped it and it went incomplete. Then came the 2 QB sneaks.

I don't know about Finley per-se, but we used to have TEs we tended to target more in these situations (Keith Jackson, Mark Chmura, Bubba Franks, etc). The current group doesn't seem to have the same confidence level.

Macbob - Thanks for the explanation. I didn't see the game though.

Yeah, losing Finley was huge. I think that's hurt us on goal line situations. He's bigger and stronger than a DB and faster than a LB. For short receptions, he'd be a monster. Kind of like Sterling Sharpe was for us.
