I love to see that in his first game, he gets 18 carries. I honestly thought they'd give him 5 carries, tops. He delivered, too. Just over 4 per carry in his first game in 2 years, couldn't have asked for more. Excited to see how he does next week against a stout Detroit D-line.

Detroit may have a stout D line but overall their run defense isn't so great. SF is 10th in the league and Detroit is 25th. They are 12th and 30th in TDs allowed. Starks should have another solid day on Sunday.

Yeah that's what Zombie said. I find that very surprising. Obviously I should have done my homework before alluding to my opinion that Detroit will be tough to run against. I would have guessed that they would have much better numbers than than. BUT this is certainly a plus that he will be able to run against a D that has given up so much on the ground. I have finals next week, and I'll be watching the game, they better not let me down! LOL!

Hey, if Starks is a step up from Grant, then we're winning the SB next year. Our O will be unstoppable.

I'm just saying let's give some love to Grant. He's been a top 10 RB 3 years in a row.

Never said he sucks.

"nerdmann" wrote:

No, you just said he's a "plodder," he lacks vision, quickness, and cutting ability, he's a bad blocker, and he can't catch the ball consistently. You also implied that he would cop an attitude if he lost his starting job. Come to think of it, you would've been a lot more charitable if you had just said he sucks.

"Greg C." wrote:

He's had production. I don't think anyone denies he consistently leaves yards on the field.

"nerdmann" wrote:

I would.

He doesn't dance around behind the line like AP waiting and giving up the 5 yard gain for a chance to break a big one once out of 10 carries. He goes and gets the 5 in a hard nosed punch in the ribs kind of way.

That is why he was so productive. He moved chains, burned clock and wore down Ds. He was the second most productive back in the NFL when he was a starter.

Between the 20+ and 40+ yard carries, AP only averages 2.8 per carry. They go 3 and out a lot and they have take him out when they need to get 3 yards and only have 1 shot at it. Because AP is only successful 10% of the time.

I would take 20 5 yard carries over one 50 and 19 little 2.5 yard ones. Not as exciting, but a lot more productive.

Grant gets 3-5 yards, even when there's a huge hole open if he just cuts right. He just doesn't see it. Doesn't cut as well as Bjack either.

If anyone is the odd man out here it's Hall. Kuhn moves back to his original position but brings some goal line threat with him. Quinn stays for power running and we keep 3 RB's like most teams.

"Mckennj3" wrote:

Unfortunately, I agree. I love Hall and the intensity (and versatility) he brings, but we don't need 3 fullbacks, and if Starks continues to impress (like I think he will), Kuhn will go back to being a (nearly) full time fullback.

Again.. Starks had a nice day and hope to see more of this.. but it starts up front and from the coaching staff.

Packers running back John Kuhn on the improved running game: "If you're going to run the ball, you've got to get dirty, and you've got to get tough. We went full pads this week in the run game, and we made a big emphasis during the week of keeping your pads down and driving with your feet. I think it showed today."

Two things here...

1) Quoting it just because it bugs some with these layered quotes. ;)

2) I know.. but before someone jumps on that bandwagon.. thought I would nip it for going forward. That and I don't want the "pass happy" crowd to brow beat me with the quote.. lol.
