You ever used this stuff?

People are always raving about how different it is...so I thought I'd finally try a couple out (part of the last fling of extravangance pre-temperate 2011) ...but no matter what I put it on, I always end up oversalting with it.

I worried about paying several bucks for a few ounces...at this rate, it'll last me about a year per ounce.

we have some with it's own little grinder thingy. i don't notice any difference in taste at all. in fact, i'm with you - i find myself using far too much of it. think i'll stick with good ole morton salt from now on.

speaking of 'foodies', anybody have a good recipe to use up about a pint of heavy whipping cream? i think i can make chocolate ganache with it but how long will that last if i refrigerate it? any other ideas would be awesome. 😃

Wade - we just use iodized salt. Me thinks it's a marketing gimmick. You need iodine, especially after we have a limited nuclear war.

I've used iodized salt for ages. Not sure why, I've just gotten used to buying it.

Gee, even my "clog the arteries" fettucine alfredo uses only strong 1/2 a cup.

Can you make peanut butter pie with real whipping cream instead of coolwhip? Our PBP recipe uses 16 oz of coolwhip, but I have no idea if that matches up with whipping cream --- I don't bake much or do desserts.

(I'm a cheese plate guy for afters, sorry.)

I think the whole "sea salt" thing is a gimmick.
I like salt, and don't notice any difference with it.
The only thing was the sea salt i bought was a very fine salt. GREAT for popcorn.

I never put salt on anything but my front steps and driveway. They taste pretty good that way, especially when you plant your face and mouth on that cold cement after a snow/ice storm.

There is so much salt in the foods we eat anyway. I really don't use salt, but pepper is a whole different story.

"Old Walt sold salt from his vault.
But was the salt Sea Salt in that vault,
or was that salt in the vault
Iodized salt that old Walt was selling."

"You'll never be at fault with my salt
Old Walt thought as he opened his vault.
This stuff is great, that's what I was taught,
To put on steaks and fish you've caught."

"So Cheesey got some of Old Walt's Salt,
and liberally sprinkled his popcorn.
His eyes rolled back, his mouth twitched and turned,
"My God, this tastes like Shit."

What kind of ending did you expect, huh????

I rarely put salt on anything, but I have used sea salt before and I DO notice a difference. I think it's absolutely delicious. How about if you just try sprinkling on less?

The Japanese live 3 years longer than Americans. They average 7500 milligrams of sodium a day. American recommendations are around 2000-2500 milligrams a day of sodium or less. Yet, the Japanese triple our recommendations and live longer.

So, what does this mean?

It means that salt in itself is not bad. Salt if you have high blood pressure is very bad. If you don't have high blood pressure, enjoy as much salt as you want.
