I actually disagree. I think that with the exception of Driver (most games), our receivers show little to no spirit at all, Jones and Jennings in particular. On that interception, the DB was fighting for the ball, laying out for it. On the replay, it looked like Jennings barely put any effort to get to the ball and simply gave up on it. Yes, it was a phenomenal play by the DB and sometimes you just have to give him props for making the play, but it's a pattern we're seeing consistently this season.

I am not sure it is fair to criticize Greg for giving up on that play - it may have been impossible for Greg to torque his body in a way that allowed him to compete for the ball.

Or perhaps he simply did not see Tillman coming - who as you mentioned laid out for the ball.

I do, however, think the drop by Jones (along the sideline) and the drop by Jennings (after he got behind the CB and had the ball go off his hand) are two examples of plays that cannot happen any longer. Especially if our running game is as poor as it was tonight.

In the first half, we had that one series where DD fumbled, then we had that atrocious drive that was set back by a penalty, followed by a sack, iirc, then there was the one where Jennings drops a sure TD followed by a horrendous drop by Jones.
This game could've been a blowout. We're that much better than Chicago. IF we execute.

IDK if this post is directed towards me, but I was not criticizing Jennings for "giving up" on that INT. And I don't think he did. That was just a great play by the corner.

It's easy to say that he didn't try to defend it when you're watching in slow motion, but it was kind of a bang-bang play. I don't think anyone expected the CB to lay out for it like that.

That play was in no way shape or form Jennings' fault.

go.pack.go - After the ball had left ARod's hand (removing him from fault), Jennings started to turn upfield, instead of coming back toward the ball, which opened up the area for Tillman. Had Jennings not turned upfield, Tillman would have dove into Jennings, causing a penalty, or Jennings would have made the catch.

I guess I'll have to watch that interception again. The thought never occurred to me that it was Jennings' fault. It did not look like the kind of play where he should be working his way back toward the QB. I think his momentum was in a sideways direction and the CB just made a phenomenal play to get the pick.

Maybe he misjudged the ball, and tried to turn it up field so he could get some valuable yards after the catch. Like I said, nobody thought Tillman could do that. It looked like a perfect ball but again, Tillman just made a great play.

I still don't blame Greg Jennings.

You see that they have spirit in their reactions to misses.

"peteralan71" wrote:

It's their reactions that disturb me most of all. They're either grinning and yukking it up or they're clamoring for flags. Unless the DBs have committed an egregious offense, I don't want to see our receivers begging for flags. I think it just looks lame. Own up to your mistakes and catch the next one.

I'm not saying he would have made the catch, or even that it would have been necessarily realistic to expect him to make it. But he could have made some sort of effort to fight for it and at least try to keep Tillman from grabbing the ball. Yes, he would have been risking an offensive pass interference penalty, but that's a hell of a lot fewer yards than the yardage (and possession) given up by the interception.

You do have a point that he may not have seen Tillman, but Tillman was between him and the line of scrimmage, so he would have seen him by the time Tillman was in position to make the interception.

I'd like to see a small, very agile and speedy receiver who can double as a KR/PR specialist. I think that would do wonders for us. As usual though, I couldn't agree more with musccy. If we had lost today, it would have been completely on the shoulders of the receivers. Rodgers played well (the INT was Jennings' fault, as he ran away from the ball after it left Rodgers' hand), the running game was bad but the same as usual so you can't say it was sub-par, and our defense was phenomenal. It is obvious that the WR's are not lacking in spirit. They WANT to do good. But for one reason or another, they are NOT. They are dropping the ball and fumbling the ball like crazy. Or not reading blocks and missing a crucial 1st down (cough...Jordy...cough). They need to step up next weekend, or they're going home.

This.

Get some little dude with hands. Or a big dude with hands. I don't care. Just somebody who can catch the damn ball.

Look at the Patriots. Everyone on that team catches the ball. RBs, TEs, WRs. These drops are kind of scaring me. It seems like only Driver has hands this year. (FYI - his fumble was his ONLY one this year).

I agree that there are WAY too many drops. We were lucky that we were able to overcome them and get the win.
But that kind of crap better stop NOW.
In the playoffs, the GREAT teams don't make those mistakes.
If you do, you will be one and done.
