The commentators remarked several times on all the slips -- at least 5 by my count -- we saw on the field today, some of which influenced key plays. They joked that after having spent $2 billion to build that stadium, Jerry Jones was going to have to spend a bit more to resurface it.

Seriously, though, the conditions of that field, in the biggest game of the year, indoors no less, were unacceptable. How could the Cowboys organization have been permitted to field a surface that was so slippery?

Yeah, I noticed that the players on both sides were going down too. Maybe it was Jerry Jones' way at getting at the Packers and Steelers, who are both non divisional rival.

In all seriousness, I have no idea what would cause that to happen. I believe Dallas has field turf. I have been on it myself. If anything, it is easier to play on than natural grass.

The league doesn't care about player safety. if they did, they would...

1. Have more strict standards for turf. Soldier field has been a mudpit multiple times this season, and when you combine a slippery field with "grass" made out of artificial turf on top of rubber on top of asphalt it makes for dangerous conditions.

2. Make all QBs, and maybe all players wear the helmet ARod's been wearing.

3. Serious fines for helmet to helmet hits that are anything but incidental.

When this whole CBA BS started I was 90% on the league's side. Now it's about 50-50.

It was claimed that with all the decorative Super Bowl paint it was more slippery.

The was clear visual evidence that fake turff causes more injuries than God designed natural grass.

Aside from the slipping, the ground had no give. Just look at how Woodson and Shields got hurt. Dives like that happen all the time in football. The turf needs to have more give in it so injuries like that (or worse yet, concussions) aren't an absolute certainty.

And something I've always wondered: those little chunks of rubber that fly up like rooster tails whenever something drags on the ground... how can they possibly NOT wind up in someone's eyes once in a while?

Are y'all really complaining about this? I didn't really notice any problems and besides, the Packers won! It's their 20th game this year, guys are bound to get hurt. Also, the stadium cost $1.2 billion, not $2 billion. Not-so-perfect conditions are part of the game. Anyone heard of/remember the Ice Bowl?

Field turf is field turf, same company that has it at any dome in the country, so this isn't a Jerry issue. I was curious as to how Shields and Woody got hurt on, like you said, routine dives.

I was complaining about the field yesterday. Players from both sides were slipping. I listened to The SCORE out of Chicago this morning and their reporter in Dallas did not have an answer either.

I'll just throw this out there: Maybe there was nothing wrong with the playing surface. Maybe guys were just a little overexcited by the magnitude of the game, so they spun their wheels a bit. To me, it looked more like stumbling than sliding. But I'll watch it again and pay closer attention to it.
