Pay the guy if we lose Finley it would kill me.

We've won 4 SBs so far, including last year's. Finley has played on 0 of them.

Don't be surprised if Ted lets Finley walk. As good as he is, Ted doesn't like anyone hijacking the team.

Obviously, if Screaming Lord Byron can be traded, I can't see why Finley would be more important.

I don't think Finley's negotiators will care that Jermichael has missed so many games in the past 3 years. I think they will take a similar approach in negotiations as The Postons did with Kellen Winlsow II in 2004 spoofed here in Bang Cartoons
It is my opinion that they will claim that Finley should be considered the premier TE in the NFL injuries or not and thus compensated as such.

Negotiations will not be fun. The only thing that will help is if they wait until after the 2011 season in which Jermichael once again puts up outstanding numbers.

Quarless was quite last year.... but he was a rookie. Finley didn't do much his rookie year ether. Quarless can move great... he needs to learn to finish though by catching the ball and holding onto it.

As for another TE great. I think MM like TEs and the mismatches they bring. He's kept 4 TEs two years... why not make it three?

As for Finley make the kid an offer if he doesn't like it, ask him what he would like, if you don't like that then franchise tag him (which TE tag has been cheaper than other positions)...

After he's franchise tag (assuming you can still tag guys) you can then work out a long term deal, hold him for a year and let him go, hold him for a year and tag him again after it.... or trade him. Simply.

I have nothing against Quarless but I don't think he's even CLOSE to JF. Yes, it took Finley time to show what he's got but he was the youngest player in that draft and was projected to be...well... a project.

I think Quarless will be o.k. but he does not have Finley's ability to get OPEN like Finley does or catch the ball the way Finley does. These DB's can't guard Finley. When he's not wide open he uses his body so well to shield the ball it's like taking candy from a baby.

He's the #1 Offensive threat Rodgers has. Need a short pass for a 1st down? No problem. Beat a DB deep? No problem. Redzone. Big problem... for the other guys. When you add up all the ways this guy can help he is our #1 guy.

If this team remains a GREAT team and one that is very hard to beat for years to come it's because they have been able to keep guys like this on the team. You go from great to average replacing guys like this with guys like Quarless.

If he returns healthy, he has the potential to be a game-changer on offense. Would hate to see him walk. Sign him early to a long-term deal if he shows he's healed up, trade him if we have absolutely no chance of signing him.

One good thing about this off-season and the lockout, haven't really heard the issue of Ted Thompson not pursuing free agents raised much... 🙂

The franchise tag number for tight ends (assuming there is one) will be $7.3 million. TE is one of the cheapest positions to franchise.

Pack usually never let go of an asset. He'll be paid or traded for a high pick.

If he can shake the injury bug, he could be a Packer for a long time.

Why would any receiver want out of Green Bay right now. I pray we don't screw up this would be dynasty. I was pretty bummed when Denver beat us in SB XXXII. But that team had a lot of aging veterans and it came crashing down pretty fast. This team should be good for a long time.

Great point. Now that Denver has cut Daniel Graham and Tony G is considering retirement, it may be even lower.

Tony Gonzalez is not retiring. He answered that question a few weeks after the Falcons lost. Not that he can't change his mind, cuz we've seen that once or twice or ....
