Barnett deserves his own thread, but I guess this is the one we have. I just want to mention that I saw him on the news last night, and he was very classy about the whole thing. He comes across much better in person that he does on Twitter. He did not complain. He noted that a team can't have three players at the same position who earn starting money, and they had decided to go in another direction. He mentioned a few teams that he would consider going to. The ones I remember were Tampa Bay, San Diego, and Detroit.

Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

I think that, all things being equal or close to equal, you should avoid trading a good player to a division rival, but you can't be so afraid of one player that you end up making a bad deal. A GM should have confidence that his team is the best.

I think any team contacted by GB about a potential trade for Barnett would take a glance at our cap situation and know that we have to release him if we can't trade him. These FO people know what they're doing. His trade value is based on being able to secure his signing vs. FA where 31 teams are potentially vying for him.

I'm not going to miss him, to be blunt. Bah. 4 pages in...I was hoping for some more juicy info than this. I already suspected Nick was gone by the end of the season.

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

I thin the whole SB picture thing didn't help Barnett.
I know that's not the main reason they are getting rid of him, but i'm sure it didn't help him any.

For as much as I didn't care for his over the top antics post play, his lack of stout play at the point of attack, one has to tip the cap and give him his respect for the way he handled the situation.

Very good player overall.. just IMO never put himself or the team didn't force him into his best overall position to maximize his potential.. the weakside backer in a 4-3 scheme.

Nah, by "juicy" I simply meant something unexpected or up for debate.

I never really cared for Barnett the Samurai, but wish him luck where ever he plays...even if it ends up being with the Lions. I would assume if he were released he would want to go somewhere with a high % chance at a SB run, so out of the teams listed, the Lions should be the lowest on the totem pole.

I think cutting Poppinga, Harrell, and Tauscher would make most sense to resign guys like Kuhn and Jones. There is nothing more that the 3 of these guys can do for the organization.
