The agent for guard Daryn Colledge said that his client won't be back with the Packers and was leaning heavily toward joining the Arizona Cardinals.

Jeff Sperbeck said that Colledge drew a lot of interest on the open market and when asked if he expected Colledge to sign somewhere soon, he said. "It's looking very positive."

Asked who was the leader in the clubhouse, he said: "The Cardinals have expressed serious interest."

Teams can't officially sign players until Friday a 5 p.m., and Sperbeck said he wouldn't announce that Colledge had agreed to terms with any team. But the fact he mentioned the Cardinals, pretty much assures that he has an agreement in hand with them.

The Packers wanted to re-sign Colledge and expressed a desire to negotiate, but Colledge had already made up his mind that he was going to go somewhere else.

"I believe the Packers have had the last couple of years to get a deal done and we've not been able to reach an agreement," Sperbeck said. "They could have done it after his third, fourth or fifth years."

Asked if he could say Colledge wouldn't be back, Sperbeck said, "You can read between the lines."

Colledge has not missed a game due to injury in five seasons, starting all but four of 80 games, including all 16 games each of the last three seasons. He has the ability to play both guard positions and left tackle in a pinch, and has experience in a high-octane passing game.

The Packers will have to find a replacement among T.J. Lang, first-round pick Derek Sherrod, Marshall Newhouse, Nick McDonald and perhaps others. Only Lang has any kind of signiicant playing experience.

Just exactly what Colledge will receive in his new contract isn't known, but Sperbeck said people might be surprised by the numbers.

"I think so," he said. "I'm not because I was anticipating similar numbers deal. It was what we were aking for with the Packers."

According to Colledge's verified Twitter account...

Everybody slow down. Just talking to people. Nothing is official. I told you all when something happens I would let you know.

Sounds like agent pressure being applied to the Packers.. either that or a reporter just trying to be first with a story.

He was adequate and durable during his time in Green Bay, but he's probably not worth matching what the Cardinals are throwing at him. It's not unusual for players after winning a ring, especially when they become UFAs, to run to the highest bidder.

The Packers have a good group of young, cheaper, and hungry guys roaring for a chance to get into the starting lineup. I've got to think they'll be able to find a starter amongst Lang, Newhouse, McDonald, etc. Especially to replace who many considered the least talented of our starting offensive linemen.

As for Colledge commits they're not allowed to official sign yet, right? So Colledge might not say anything until after he signs it... though with the agent saying it most roads point to it.

Beast... just adding it in case this report goes south and where the report of the inaccuracy may have come from. Tom is the only one reporting that it is a done deal.

Nothing is official till Friday, so this is about all we're going to get till then. With well-known players like McNabb and Hasselbeck, reporters are making the effort to get the real scoop, so we know what is happening. With low-profile players like Colledge, that may not happen. But it sounds like he is as good as gone.

A different version.. not a surprise if he leaves in the big scheme of things.

Four teams interested in Colledge, but not Packers
Jul 27, 2011 -- 8:31pm

GREEN BAY – Daryn Colledge’s Green Bay Packers career is over. Where he continues his NFL career is now the question.

“The Packers have said they have no interest in my services at a high price,” Colledge said in a Twitter direct message Wednesday evening.

Thus, Colledge and his agent, Jeff Sperbeck, are getting plenty of interest from other teams. While Sperbeck told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Tom Silverstein that the Arizona Cardinals “have expressed serious interest,” the St. Louis Rams, Washington Redskins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are also in the running for Colledge, according to an NFL source.

Colledge, meanwhile, admitted that he was “a little hurt” that the Packers are “uninterested.” Arizona would seem like a good choice for Colledge from a personal perspective, given that he makes his offseason home in Boise, Idaho, where he played college football at Boise State. He and his wife, Megan, had their first child earlier this month.

Colledge and the rest of the NFL’s unrestricted free agents can’t officially sign with teams until after 5 p.m. on Friday, but a number of players have already agreed to terms with various teams. The Packers re-upped with kicker Mason Crosby on a five-year, $14.75 million deal earlier Wednesday.

In five years, the 29-year-old Colledge has never missed a game due to injury, starting 83 of a possible 87 games (including playoffs). Of Colledge’s 83 starts, 78 have come at left guard, four at left tackle and one at right tackle.

With Colledge out of the picture, the Packers will turn their attention to preparing his replacement. T.J. Lang is thought to be the leading candidate for the job, but Nick McDonald, Marshall Newhouse and rookie first-round pick Derek Sherrod could also compete.

I'm a little hurt that Daryn cared so little about becoming a run blocker. The difference between he and Sitton is mind boggling. Don't let the door hit you in the ass. Give the money about to be wasted on Colledge to Jones.

beast (2-Aug) : I believe it's technically against the CBA rules, but Jerry just calls it a simple unofficial chat... and somehow gets away with it.
beast (2-Aug) : Jerry Jones is infamous for ̶n̶e̶g̶o̶t̶i̶a̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ chatting with players one on one... and going around the agent.
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Oo just saw a blurb saying that Dallas negotiated directly with Parsons and not through his agent
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : I assumed that both guys will get paid, just a matter of when or how we get there
Zero2Cool (1-Aug) : McLaurin nor Micah going anywhere. They will get money
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : the Synder years or do they take care of one of their own?
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Do the Commanders risk losing a top WR with an emerging QB just because he's turning 30 and potentially risk damaging the rebuild from
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Turns 30 this September, plays at a high level and Washington has some cap space I believe
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : More interesting is Washington with Terry McLaurin
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : I would imagine Dallas will resolve this issue with a truckload of money
Zero2Cool (1-Aug) : Micah pulling a Myles with trade request

Zero2Cool (30-Jul) : database is on new host, eventually website will follow
Mucky Tundra (30-Jul) : Zero, regarding Ewers, you are correct.
Zero2Cool (30-Jul) : Sadly, this might be our life for awhile. I could put it on another host, but seems it was slower, although more stable
beast (30-Jul) : How long will it be down?
beast (30-Jul) : RIP site 😭
Zero2Cool (30-Jul) : Site will die, I have to restart it.
Zero2Cool (30-Jul) : Quinn stinks. Lot of underthrows. (my guess)
beast (30-Jul) : How did Quinn Ewers effect where Golden was drafted?
dfosterf (30-Jul) : All I've experienced was late at night or early morning. I just figured you were doing something in the background
Zero2Cool (30-Jul) : Site sure seems to be down more than up
