i think they are both gonna get cut just because of the fact they didn't get to play all pre-season long, if it wasn't grant and jackson in there lumpkin carried the ball

I agree Lumpkin has looked good, but I think Herron has the edge right now.

Personally, if we only keep 3 RBs I hope Lumpy stays, because he has more upside than Herron or Morency.

I may be in a minority here, but I'd take Herron over Lumpkin. Herron has proved his worth in regular season.

Herron is #3. If we keep a fourth one, we should keep Lumpkin.

I agree, I liked Herron for a few years now and was sad when he went on the IR last year. However it was a blessing in disguise because if he was on the roster, we may never have found Ryan Grant.

Herron is a good third down back, he blocks well, catches the ball, and can even run the ball if needed.

That's pretty weak logic.

Grant hardly played in the pre-season, but he isn't going to get cut.

My point is simple: pre-season playing time in games isn't the sole means of determining the roster.

Herron is our best RB in terms of picking up blitzes, protecting the QB. Grant showed improvement in that area, especially with him helping our Gs block Haynsworth yesterday, but I still think Herron is the best blocking RB on our team.

On third downs you need to have a sure blocker, someone you know will be able to read the D and pick up the blitz. That's what won Morency the third down RB job last year when he came back from injury and looked to be less than 100% for the entire season.

Herron has also proven that he can step in and give you a solid running game if need be from his performance in 2006. He's a proven vet, I think he's got a spot on this team.

the only reason im using this logic is that i would want to see what kind of stamina my third string back has and so far the only one that they are testing is lumpkin
and i know they already know what morency can bring but how much game-time does herron have?

IMO we will keep 6 backs in total..

FB - Kuhn and Hall

RB - Grant, Jackson, Herron and Lumpkin.

Mo will be no Mo in Lambeau.. he hasn't stayed healthy yet for more than a couple games at a stretch.. Lumpkin has proved he can tote the rock if needed.. he will be a game day inactive if all other RB's are healthy.

IMO of course.

This is huge. People underestimate how important that ability is, but I'm sure the coaches don't.

Also helps he can get us 4 yards a run.

Based on what I've heard about Lumpkin, I've been wanting this too.

But realistically, I doubt we can keep 6 backs in total. if you look at a roster breakdown: 3 QBs/5 WRs/3 TE/9 OL/10 DL/6 LB/5 CB/4 S/3 ST then you've already got 48 players. that leaves 5 spots open for backs.

The problem is that we need to keep extra bodies for the D-Line, it's more important to have extra bodies at DE/DT than it is at RB.

I think Lumpkin gets caught up in the numbers game.
