The following quote is from a discussion of the way ESPN's QBR penalizes QBs for YAC.

Driver mentioned once that one thing Rodgers does better than Favre is that Rodgers won’t throw you into a big hit across the middle. Farve flung it out there. Driver said Rodgers has extended his career.

There’s something to be said for a receiver knowing that when he gets the ball, he’ll get a chance to touch the ground before the beatdown comes.

The part in bold intrigues me. I'd love to see the original quote. I remember reading a quote once in which Freeman expressed frustration with Favre constantly hanging him out to dry, thereby endangering his career. I have noticed the difference since Rodgers took over. With Favre we often caught our breath and closed our eyes as we saw receivers getting hammered the moment they touched the ball. We rarely see that with Rodgers. More often than not, the receivers have a chance to defend themselves before taking a hit. It probably has something to do with Rodgers' throwing the ball away from the DB, as Dexter_Sinister frequently points out.

Here is Skip Bayless' take on the issue.

On Mike and Mike in the Morning today he said that he would take Tebow over Rodgers in the last 2 minutes of a game.

From his Twitter feed:

Give me QBs who have long owned 4th quarters. Give me Vince Young & Tebow who owned 4th quarters of national championship games.

I love Suh but immature temper, ejection cost Det the game. Pack would've been held to FG, 10-0. ARodg struggling. Then roof fell in. Suh me

RealSkipBayless wrote:

Stephen A saying ARodg playing better THAN ANY QB EVER. What!?

RealSkipBayless wrote:

ARodg playing at higher level than ANY QB EVER? Just stop it. Montana, Marino, Favre '96, Brady '07 or even LAST YEAR? Prisoners of Moment.

RealSkipBayless wrote:

ARodg playing GREAT. But not THAT great. Not unless you're Favre hater and you've lost all objectivity b/c you're really rooting against HIM

RealSkipBayless wrote:

You'd better believe I'm taking Tebow over ARodg in last 2 mins. I've SEEN Tebow do it again/again/again. ARodg hasn't had many chances.

RealSkipBayless wrote:

Better 4th-q QBR, Tebow or ARodg? You guessed it: Not ARodg. But yes, GBay always so far ahead that blah-blah-blah ... Tebow, closer.

Skip Bayless is an idiot. You can't anything he says seriously because he says thinks to get a reaction and for people to talk about it. That Tebow thing is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard in my life.

He does have a point about people living as prisoners of the moment though. If you look at Manning's 2004 season (when it was harder to play QB) or Brady's 2007 season, those are pretty impressive seasons. I hate Manning's statistics and I think he benefits from playing in a dome and you could make arguments that Rodgers is better than them this year. But I think it's closer than people think and its probably just we're in the moment right now as opposed to 2004 being 7 years ago. But regardless, Rodgers is having an awesome season but I think you have to wait until the end of the year and you have to wait for a few years to see how the numbers hold up - If someone had told me that Brady would equal Mannings 2004 season and that Rodgers would equal Brady's 2007 season, I would have thought your nuts.

We know Skip Bayless is an idiot. We have talked about that extensively on that site. I am just preserving both sides of the argument for posterity, since over time, things disappear from the internet.

Haha, it is good to see that after not visiting the site for a while, things are still the same. Good times. I did not read every post in this thread but again, I do not understand why people have to bash Favre in order to say how great Aaron is, one has nothing to do with the other.

All I know is I saw someone say that Favre is the #4 QB in Packer history, really? Wow. And stop taking stats from 2011 and comparing them to stats from 1995. If you did that, you would say that Favre in 2009 is 2X better than Favre in 1995 - which is insane. It's a different era, I bet Matt Schuab has a higher QB rating than Joe Montana.

Either way, why is this stuff still going on - I used to get accused of bringing this stuff up all the time but without even me here, this still goes on. Let's just enjoy what is going on - we are 10-0! 10-0! 10-0! 10-0! And we are discussing this - why?

Rodgers has exceeded all my expectations, I actually thought last week "he's having a crappy game" and looked at this stats and they were still better than 90% of the QBs in the league. He is great, regardless of what you want to think even if you didn't even watch Favre back then, Favre was great too. Why does one have to be better than the other.

Favre was only a little over 6 points above average. Rodgers is now over 20 above average. Rodgers is about 8th all time. Fave is around 50th and tied with Trent Green.

Skip Bayless is simply a shock jock. He doesn't believe the schlock he peddles any more than Alan Colmes or Rush Limbaugh do. He just takes a contrarian stance calculated to piss people off. Just watch his facial expressions on TV. He revels in the outrage he provokes. He's paid to be the guy sensible sports fans love to hate.[suicide]
