It's getting cold and so is Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers started the season well and at one time looked like a possible MVP candidate. But then the weather started cooling and so did Rodgers. The first warning sign was against the Buccaneers at Lambeau Field. Aaron Rodgers (at the time) had his 2nd worst passer rating in a game. The blind homers called it an anomaly. But his passer rating had dropped 33 points from his performance 2 weeks earlier.

The next outdoor game was at the Giants and Aaron Rodgers had, at the time, his worst game of the season. 52 degrees and a 9 mph wind; there was no denying his QB rating had dropped. Some falsely gave credit to the Giants but in reality Rodgers was continuing his downward spiral of declining performance, his passer rating getting worse and worse. Unfortunately his ability to play was to get much worse.

Then came the Raiders game and his being mentioned as an MVP candidate became doubtful. Outdoors at 42 degree Lambeau Field with a wind of 15 mph. His passer rating plummeted to below his rock bottom levels and down into double digits. Everyone knew if he didn't shape up the Packers season was in jeopardy.
34 points worse in passer rating than just 4 weeks earlier.

Finally in Arrowhead Stadium with 10 mph wind making the 50 degree temperature a wind chill of 46 degrees. Aaron Rodgers had nosedived to suckage numbers. He could not even complete 50% of his passes!! His QB rating for the game was 80.1. Barely above Tarvaris Jackson level (79.9).

No there is no question about Aaron Rodgers now sucking as an NFL QB and getting worse. Every game since 10/23/11 his QB rating has dropped further each game (except for the indoor game in Detroit where it rose nominally). His passer rating is dropping on average over 9 points a week.

Unless the Packers coaching staff can fix Rodgers and end this death spiral of declining poor performance, they will end up with a poor QB on the Blaine Gabbert level (65.6) by the time the playoffs start.

A real MVP would be able to turn his poor perfomance around. That train has left the station.

Will Mike McCarthy make the switch to Matt Flynn in order to salvage the Packers season?
It depends on whether he thinks that Rodgers problems are correctable or not and what actions McCarthy takes to get him to attempt to improve.

Drew Brees deserves MVP more than Aaron Rodgers. They both play better in domes and have their play drop during outdoor games in cold. Drew is doing more with a lot less.

It would be nice if the Packers had a tight end that would catch half of everything.

I'm confused by your post calicheez because you use relevant facts that refute the sarcastic point you're trying to make.

I'm not saying that Rodgers has fallen off the deep end but his numbers, which are a reflection of myriad variables that do happen to include him, have trailed off the last month, there's no disputing that.

I don't think anyone here would argue against him being the best qb in the league, and likely the MVP, but his "less jaw dropping" numbers while others like Brady or Brees keep putting up big stats at least keep it from being a complete rubber stamped MVP competition, IMO.

I got no clue what your deal is CaliforniaCheez but A-Rod's "death spiral" and him being Blaine Gabbert suddenly...I can't even comment on such asinine foolishness. All players play better in warmer weather. The ball is easier to handle and isn't like a frozen rock like in the cold. That said, Rodgers is as good in the cold as any other quarterback in the league. He will be the MVP and it is a lock though Drew Brees has had an incredible season. Both guys have had all-time years. The Packers will be fine come postseason time and they'll be playing at Lambeau. If we play the Saints, if anyone will be untested in the cold, it's Drew Brees. He gets to play in that nice dome way down south. We'll be ready for them.

Sorry CaliforniaCheez. I didn't notice the sarcasm meter. I'm too used to posting in Yahoo.

I would say Rodgers has had 5 consecutive quarters of bad play. This also includes the WR issues of course. Drives have lost their machine -like efficiency down the field.

I want to see a good start on the first drive against the Bears. MM and AR should both recognize that the ball has to get out much faster now. If AR can show himself as the elite player that everyone has seen prior to the raiders game, MVP should be his.

One positive that has come out of this whole situation is that PackerNation has come off its high horse. By that I mean, I think Packers fans of today are more realistic and reasonable. During the Favre era, the Packers' quarterback could do no wrong. No matter what happened, there was always an excuse, it was always someone else's fault. Now we as Packers fans can have level-headed discussions dissecting what goes wrong in a game without trying to cover for anyone. Most of all, I like that we can criticize our quarterback without rushing to make excuses for him. It's nice to be able to call him -- or anyone else on this team -- out for bad performance.

I hope we never see a personality cult in Green Bay again.
