80s hair metal as music was awful. But they got laid.

Grunge people were too self-loathing to get laid. If I could go back and time and kill someone before they got famous, it would be Cobain. He ruined fun.

And no, Pack93z. Guys in flannel don't get laid. Unless you like chicks with hairy armpits that hate men.

I thought Kurt Cobain was a good guy (at least his anti-sexism, anti-homophobia thoughs I agree with).

He made great music too. Don't listen to what zombieslayer thinks. I mean zombie acutally thinks Nightwish is a good band! I know right, what a loony!

Watch the movie "The Wrestler." The main character explains it better than I do.

And to echo what Dakota said, I don't want to go to a show to see the people I work with on stage. I want to see people who are larger than life.

See.. I differ... I don't look at anyone in a band and see someone larger than life.

They have a skilled and crafted talent, they provide an avenue of entertainment, but I certainly do not worship them or are envious of them in the slightest bit.

Hell, I am not envious of football players for any other fact that they get to play the sport that I love. I hold little value of fame, fortune and having to deal with the attached strings that come along with it. Yes, even the women. I am way to low key for that..

I would love to be able to pick up a guitar and be really proficient at it.. I think it would be enjoyable and a sort of release to do so. But I would have no desire to get up on stage and perform for a audience, not in the least.

The money aspect might be luring.. but looking at the numbers of those that actually are successful and make more than a living on it.. that would pass as well.

I can't say I have ever been in awe of anyone.. I may respect what they do, but I can't say I would be envious in the least and hold them up above me in any form.

After all.. they are human just as I.

That said.. Cobain and the grunge movement may not have been my thing overall, but they definitely pushed the envelope open for a broader spectrum of music overall. At least in my mind.

Reality isn't a bad place to breed music, just delivery of said music is varies and inspires a different reaction. I often find myself connecting more with music that "speaks" to me.. ties into some aspect of my life. Up, down or someplace in between on the emotional and psychological scale.

I was listening to a discussion about this on the radio the other day, and the guys was commenting on how quiet and low-key the lifestyle of the average professional baseball player is in comparison to the wild, drunken, raucous lifestyle they lead in the 1980s. Famous people, on the whole, don't live all that much different than ordinary people these days. There's just too much scrutiny and the demands of their jobs are too high. As T.J. Lang found out, you just cannot perform to standard if you are out all night partying. He was in danger of being cut until he cleaned up and started spending his nights home with his girlfriend and baby. He claims they're in bed by 9:00 most nights now.

See 93Z, I don't idolize them either - I respect a great guitar player and a singer with a four octave range - but other than that - they are all just filling a role. Whenever a concert is in town or the Chippendale boys came through - THE WOMEN WERE HORNY - and that created fun for all. Thank you Hair Metal pussies.

What part in the movie are you referencing?

Back on topic: I enjoyed some of Nirvana's stuff.. But honestly couldn't give a damn less about what their personal philosophies were.

And I also completely disagree with ZS on men in flannel not gettin' some.
