My opinion upon the subject is clear.. but I am hoping they with hold the announcement of this until after the draft. Why give other teams an idea of whether or not he plays again.. it will only keep teams guessing that much more on the Packers possible intentions in the draft and more importantly on any possible trades of safeties that might become available during the draft.

I'm really hoping the guy can come back and play, without any further risk. Given the amount of time this is taking, you would think Collins' doctors might have given him a green light. If the light was red, the Packers team physicians would really have nothing further to discuss. Then again, maybe they just need a week to figure out what to do with his retirement. It would be great if he were cleared to play and kept the Green & Gold 36.

I also think Shawn has an excellent point too. Why allow other teams know if you need a starting Safety prior to the draft if you don't have to?

This day an age, how could this be kept secret for three more weeks? Peyton Manning's stuff was revealed quit quickly. Then again, the Packers are more gooder.

Let's say Collins is done. Since I can't seem to get away from my favorite word of the day, "options," how about this one:

How many here would trade Finley or Jennings for Ed Reed? I would consider a Finley trade, as we have proven we can win a SB without him. Might be worth a look.

Just found this on Reed:

http://www.ravens24x7.com/columns/The-Beat-with-Aaron-Wilson/Ed-Reed-intends-to-keep-playing-four-or-five-years

Sounds like he may have some health issues with a nerve impingement in his neck. Might be a bad idea. 33 years old. I would not hesitate to trade something else for him though, given his veteran experience and if healthy. For instance, what if BAL offered us Reed, a R2 and maybe a R3 for Jennings? or Reed and an R1 for Finley?

Don't get me wrong man, I love Gregg Jennings. Finley too. They are both awesome talents. I don't want us to be without them either, but would rather get something for one of those guys that we could literally part with now, without a ton of damage to our O, rather than get nothing a year from now, when the price is out of our reach. Can't keep them all.

If Packers trade anything of value, I don't think Secondary is the last portion of the defense to try to improve.

I'd rather a DE who can give a scare to the QB once in awhile to help the edge rushing OLB's far more than an Ed Reed.

Can you imagine if we had -somehow- drafted JJ Watt last year... wow. We probably would have won back-to-back SBs. That's the kind of player we really need. Maybe a couple of those. Just thinking if they want to add a vet back there in case Collins can't go.

Amazing looking at the stats between Peprah and Reed. 96 Tkls to 52 for Reed. That is one hell of a lot of secondary involvement that we don't need. We were getting killed back there last season.

The offense was quick strike score or three an out. Defense didn't get to rest ... so it seemed.

I still say ... get more pressure, it makes the entire defense look better. That's where I want to see improvements first before the Secondary.

Any QB will scorch any secondary with 4+ seconds.
Any Secondary will look a lot better with the QB having 3 or less seconds to throw.

They also were 5th in 1st downs and 3rd in 3rd down conversion %. On top of all of that they ran up the score which made the other team 1 dimensional (should have given a significant advantage to the defense). The defense didn't get to rest because they were absolutely horrible at stopping 3rd downs and getting themselves off the field.

More pressure is definitely the answer though. The secondary was awful on their own (even when the other QBs were throwing the ball quickly) so I won't make any excuses for them. A better pass rush would cover up any other weaknesses the defense has a lot easier than other things can cover for a weak pass rush.
