Eh, this should probably (and will) be in the Brett Favre section, but figured since it looks like the Packers brought it up ...

The breakup between Brett Favre and the Packers was ugly, like most high-profile breakups. The team, secure in the knowledge that it made the right choice to let Favre go, hopes that a little time heals all wounds.

Packers president Mark Murphy told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel Thursday that the team plans to retire Brett Favre's number in a year or two, when it is meaningful to Favre. (Translation: When the emotions have subsided some. And when we're absolutely sure Favre isn't going to play again.)

Favre is unquestionably one of the top Packers of all time, but even a year or two sounds soon considering how raw the feelings were between Favre and the Ted Thompson regime in Green Bay. Then again, Thompson's contract doesn't run out for a while. Aaron Rodgers isn't going anywhere.

The sooner Favre can transition into beloved ex-Packer, the happier everyone in Green Bay will be. That transition is inevitable, no matter how rough that post-Packers period was for Favre. The fans will embrace him again.

It's probably up to Favre when he wants to embrace the Packers organization again.

During his Packers years and the Jets year and the 2009 NFC Championship game, he was one of my favorite players to watch. I think if the Packers wouldn't have won the Super Bowl in 2010, my feelings might be different out of bitterness maybe ... I would like to see his number retired. I just feel he'd get booed and that personally would be a shame in my opinion. I would like it if they were able to use Aaron Rodgers to lead into Brett Favre some how to get the crowd going. I say Aaron Rodgers because I think if fans see and hear that Aaron Rodgers is excited about Brett Favre's number being retired ... I think the fans will feel the same more so than they would otherwise.

I think there are several views of Brett Favre.

Brett retired, Brett wants to come back, Packers were committed to moving on. Brett is traded to the Jets although he was expecting to be traded to the Buccaneers. (which if he were, I don't think he ends up on the Vikings ever). Brett's year with the Jets starts out good, ends in disaster. He gets released and the best team in the NFL that is only missing a QB comes calling ... therein lies the problem with Packers fans ... its the Vikings.

Brett probably sees it as, hey, Vikings were the best team in the NFL that just needed a QB and it afforded me an opportunity to prove to the Packers they made a mistake by not letting me come back.

Packers fans who have "turned on" Brett, probably see it as Brett only came back to stick it to the Packers and did so by using the 2nd biggest franchise rival in doing so ... the Vikings.

I can't imagine Aaron Rodgers ever wanting to be a part of that, and I think he would be unhappy about the organization even asking him what he felt about doing it. ~speculation~

I think we set up the retirement ceremony and then cancel it at least three times before actually going through with putting him in the ring of honor.

Actually I really don't care one way or another. Rodgers winning super bowl MVP put an end to my caring about Brett Favre.

yeah it will happen at some point in time. no surprise there.

I don't see any need to rush it. He is still a young man. (expect for a player.)
They should wait until he has been out of the league for 5 years. HoF and jersey retired in the same year works for me.

When Rodgers has another ring. At least one more.

Has anyone seen Rodgers when a Favre question comes up, he doesn't care for Favre at all from his reactions.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

I think they should pretend they are going to hold the ceremony and then force him to go to minnesota for it.
I want to go out like my Grandpa did. Peacefully in his sleep.
