Just got home for a break and on the radio, Dan Barriero had a guest on that supposedly knew about the fake girlfriend for awhile now. The link is the podcast to his show. The 30 minute mark is the beginning of the interview.

Want the real cynic in me to throw out there a far fetched possibility...

People started to question Manti's sexuality.. and this ruse was built as a cover for the hoax. What better way to have a girlfriend, end the constant questions without actually having to date/whatever than a faux girlfriend. Avoidance of the constant questions?

Without some type of extortion element.. it seems to be the only possibly I can come up with to carry it out this far.

yeah I saw a few references to this theory today. Don't know if it is so or not. Don't want to know either.

When he was called by the GM and told he was going to be drafted he thought it was a hoax.

BAD EMAIL because the address couldn ot be found, or is unable to receive mail.
