First-round pick Datone Jones sustained an injured ankle during his one and only snap of Friday's preseason game.
“As far as the medical, I do not really have any more information for you on Datone,” McCarthy said. “He’s going to go through some more testing this afternoon. We’ve been in meetings throughout the afternoon so I don’t have an update on him or a timeline.”

Given the unfortunate luck Green Bay Packers first-round picks have had recently with injuries, part of you holds your breath at news that rookie first-round pick Datone Jones sprained his ankle during the team’s 17-0 preseason-opening loss to the Arizona Cardinals Friday night.

And the fact that coach Mike McCarthy had no update on the defensive end’s condition Saturday wasn’t exactly comforting, either.

It would still seem likely that Jones will be OK after suffering the injury on the only snap he played against the Cardinals. But McCarthy wasn’t able to say that Saturday afternoon, 20 hours after the injury happened.

“As far as the medical I do not really have any more information for you on Datone. He’s going to go through some more testing this afternoon,” McCarthy said at his 3:30 p.m. press briefing at Lambeau Field. “We’ve been in meetings throughout the afternoon so I don’t have an update on him or a timeline.”

I think we should hire 40 personal trainer assistants to stand in front of our players and insure every player is adequately stretched prior to taking the field. That would be far less expensive than losing 1st round draft picks...

I was watching Run to Daylight Friday afternoon before the game. One segment showed the team in the trainers room getting taped up before practice. They were told that it was their choice, but if they suffered a sprain without the tape job Lombardi would fine them $250.00. That was a lot of money in 1964. Wonder if this is still practiced in the NFL?

After hurting his ankle on a scramble

It’s OK. It’s all right. I have pretty strong ankles. I’ve sprained my ankles a number of times over the years; I played basketball most of my childhood. One thing that I’ve sworn by … I haven’t taped my ankles in (about) nine years. I swear by it. I firmly believe … that when you tape the ankle joint the pressure goes up your leg to the next joint, so the knee obviously undertakes more of the pounding when you lock up that ankle joint. (So) I’ve not worn tape on my ankles my entire NFL career. I believe it helps you strengthen those ankles and so when you do have a twist like I had, which was pretty significant in the game, here I am a couple days later and there’s no doubt that I’ll play Sunday.
