My worry is that Finley might be essential given the injuries we've been going through with the receivers, but this might be the high point of tight end trade value and we seem to have a lot of second tier if not top tier players there. They don't seem to be a source of left tackle. Is there anything they have other than draft picks that would justify it for us?

The big problem with trading Finley,
other than the fact, The Packers really need him to step up this year, is that he comes with that 1 yr 8+million dollar contract that a team would have to honor if they traded for him.

Then they would have to negotiate a new contract with Finley, he may or may not want to do.
Trading for Finley right now would be a desperation move, would be like renting him for a year for 8mil+
I was addicted to The Hokey Pokey, but I turned myself around!

Finley does not have high trade value simply because of his contract, he has a very high 1 year deal, if any team wants him they can go after him in free agency next year.

Finley gets one more year to get with the program.

Trade Williams and Ryan Taylor for a backup swing tackle.

There's no possible way that trading Finley would benefit the Packers this year. He is by far the most talented tightend on the roster. Not only can he make plays down the middle for us, but he opens things up for the other weapons on offense. Losing him would be a pretty big blow, especially with the loss of Jennings.

The most the Packers could get for one of their backup tightends would be a 7th, maybe conditional 6th round pick.

I sure wish all you Finley haters would just recognize that we aren't trading Finley. I would be amazed if he isn't resigned long term. It's not like we have a plethora of talent at the position.

We don't need to get rid of any TEs..

I don't even see a problem with the TEs as long as we have Finley. The backups are serviceable.

We should probably draft one next year early.

Like others said, how would it benefit our team?

I wish Finley would keep his mouth shut other than "no comment!" more often.

But no way should they trade him at this point. Finley is necessary, if for no other reason, he makes it harder for the opposition to cover the WRs; and given the departures/injuries, this is going to be more important than ever for the Packers.

I wouldn't trade him unless some idiot team was willing to do a Lawrence Welk for him, and there aren't any GMs in the league who are *that* stupid.

As bigbyfan said, Finley is the most talented TE on the roster. He is top 10 talent in the league (or higher). Non of the others would be top 20. I would not be happy going into the season with any of our other TEs as our starters. We would lose an awful lot if we lost him. He will not be traded and like Dakota says I wouldn't be surprised if he was signed long term.

What I find funny is that people don't like him because of his tendency to run off at the mouth but if he were a stud that wouldn't matter to anyone. I also find it funny that so many people would be fine with him as he is if he kept his mouth shut. I don't get it, If you don't like the guy because he can't keep his mouth shut why would it matter if he were a stud or not and if you would be happy with him the way he is if he kept his mouth shut what difference does it make. his production is his production regardless of the way he talks.

So many people act as if he is dating their daughter and will become a part of their immediate family. He is a player on your favorite football team. He doesn't use drugs (that we know of) he hasn't killed anyone and the crap he says is for the most part pretty benign. He's a bit of a character and that's it. No different that LeRoy Butler if you ask me and everyone loved LeRoy.

His situation also reminds me a lot of James Jones. back when Jones was dropping every single pass that was ever thrown his way (the way some people made it sound) everyone wanted to dump him. Now he is a hero. Everyone hates Finley because of his mouth but let him have a great year and it won't matter anymore.

I hope he has a great year and the Packers sign him long term.
