I think the odds of Tramon restructuring to help the Packers are very low. James Jones has already come out and said he wants to stay in Green Bay and will sign for less. So that leaves us to go asking for our overpriced veterans to take pay cuts. I would start with the entire linebacking corp, especially Matthews.

He will be a FA in 2015 anyway and at 32 he won't be going anywhere for big money.

Why the hell isn't Washington resigning Orakpo? What happened? Scared of his injury history?

I think the Packers offer him something like $8 million bonus and salary of $2 million for 2014, then $4 million in '15 and '16, and $6 million in '17 and '18, with the understanding he would probably be cut by 2017. That would be a $3.6 million cap hit for the coming season and $5.6 for the following two seasons. Are you gonna tell me he would walk and hope for more somewhere else? Or stay for that money and a chance to play with Aaron Rodgers and the Packers?

And the cap hit would drop from $9.5 million to $3.6 million.

Everybody is under the assumption that AJ Hawk really took the "bullet" when he re-structured.

What most don't realize is that Ted "Guaranteed" 2013 and 2014, thus it looks like Hawk took a cut, but he was never going to see the last 2 years of the original contract anyway.
He knew exactly what he was doing, and those of you who can't come to the realization that AJ Hawk earned every penny he was paid can just keep "dogging" on him, but thankfully The Packer players and organization know just how valuable he is.

It's all about the "GUARANTEED" money, anything else is just agent "window dressing".

I can see The Packers extending Tramon Williams' contract 3 years, giving him a 8 mil signing bonus, thus being able to spread it out over the next 4 years(2mil each), then paying him vet minimum. (897,000)?

That would free up just short of 7 mil this year to work on Sam Shields, James Jones, James Starks, Matt Flynn among others.

I really hope this is the year that Ted Moves up in the draft and not down, I would love to see a maximum of 4 drafted rookies, choose wisely Ted.

The Packers have a lot of young guys who need a little more time to develope, tired of seeing these guys thrown into the fire when they are not ready and some ultimately fail(Jeron McMillian).

Many rookies, 1 and 2 year guys got a lot of playing time this year, that will only make them better for 2014.

Let's see what happens.

Orakpo or Byrd. One or both. Both would be better. Ted Thompson has got to stop sitting on his hands and get some real players in here.

Unless you guys have some inside information that you want to post, because I would love to read it, then you're just pulling the Tramon stuff from out of your ass.

As has been posted elsewhere the Packers have a lot of their own to consider, and for some reason Flynn isn't on this list from JSO. The Packers have a lot they need to spend on their own AND draft picks. Texas and others have alluded to crafty ways to make this more manageable, but it's not going to be that easy to sign an Orakpo or Byrd, not to mention the fact that they have to want to come to G.B. I'm sure 10 other teams will want those same FAs.

1. I will be seriously pissed if they do not re-sign Shields. To me, this one is not "Is he worth overpaying?" only "How much will they end up overpaying?" Take him away and you immediately create a major hole in the roster. A team today needs three starter-quality cornerbacks, not just two.

2. When it comes to players from other teams, in my opinion they need to repeat the success of 2006. That is, they need to pick up two players of the quality of Pickett and Woodson, or better, and they need to do so before the draft. These two players need to be either DL, OL, ILB, or safety. They don't have to be tier 1A (first 72 hour megadeals), but they have to be tier 1B/2A (March to early/mid April).

3. They have to hit at least two home runs in the draft, also at some of those positions.

4. As far as the rest of their own players, they must also sign: James Jones, Johnny Jolly, Jamari Lattimore, Evan-Dietrich Smith, and probably Andrew Quarless.

How they are going to afford all of the above financially, I don't know. But I believe that if they don't find a way, they simply will not fill enough of the holes in the roster that need to be filled before the 2014 season starts. And rather being a Super Bowl contender at the end of the year, they'll at best be a 4-6 seed team and 1/2 a step below the legitimate SB contenders.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
