If you have 4 players at somewhat the same level, and one of them actually would fill a need on your team, wouldn't you pick that guy?
That's what I would do, at least.
Piling up players at a position you have well filled already won't help you much if you ignore a glaring hole.

So if you have no viable player at a major position, you need to fill that over piling up players at one position.
If you had unlimited roster spots, then you could have several more WRS.

If all talent is 100% equal? Yep, draft for need. But it rarely is, especially with the whole "The draft is largely a crapshoot" thing.

Draft the best players, develop them and if grades are equal, then and only then do you go for need. I would bet round one is the consistent exception to this because that's the round most teams lean more towards need than best player.

What would be really neat to see is how the players are graded. What values do athletics have, academics, coach-ability, etc ...

We'll never know for sure until Ted shows us his draft boards as some guys drafted around Ted's picks might have rated much lower on his board; but there are just too may instances of Ted Thompson passing on need to say he doesnt draft BAP. See EG, 2015, Randall over Kendricks; not taking a safety until end of 4th in 2012; Dante in 2013 instead of Elam or Cyprion; or in this year's draft drafting WR Davis over Jarrell Adams or a RB or someone on defense.

I would say Myles Jack, but the Packers don't really need an inside linebacker that badly seeing as they go with outside linebackers more often in their Nickel packages. Also, the inside linebacker position only accounted for one or two plays of 20+ yard receptions last season.

And I just prefer not to concern myself with it, which makes me a boring forum contributor, but I do it for my own sanity! 🙂
