If it turned out well people would never know and wouldn't care. If it didn't, nobody from the Cowboys would say "Hey Elliot changed the play what an idiot". Anybody that hated Elliot to begin with and was looking for more reasons to hate him would assume that a play that looked like people might have been on different pages was entirely Elliot's fault, and also intentional. Anybody that loved Elliot would assume that it couldn't possibly be Elliot because he's usually so amazing. Anybody that wasn't heavily emotionally invested either way would simply accept that they don't have enough information to determine who was at fault, but like 99.9% of all situations ever, there's blame to go around.

I keep seeing references online to Ezekiel Elliott's making the Cowboys defense better. Is that just a comment on his dominance keeping the defense off the field? He didn't actually play both sides of the ball, did he?
