So, does that mean (as uffda also said) the Packers aren't as confident with Brett Hundley or does it say something more about Joe Callahan?

We don't need a veteran backup with Aaron Rodgers on the sideline to give that veteran sideline leadership.

Brian Hoyer is back with the Patriots, but New England isn't his only option. The Packers tried to sign Hoyer before he agreed to go to New England, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Rapoport's report gives the lie to Packers coach Mike McCarthy's claim that the team was fully committed to Brett Hundley as [more]

In fairness to MM, he's not the GM. However, hard to believe Ted or Eliot or whomever is running things right now wouldn't have consulted with MM. If no consult, then the supposed rift between Ted and Mike that was alluded to a couple of off-seasons back is realer than any of us thought.

Someone within the org didn't think we were good enough and was looking to make a move. I find that hard to believe that it would be Ted considering how he likes "the guys he's got" and never does anything quickly or rashly. It would take Ted 3 seasons of bad QB play for the light to go on that maybe it needed some attention.

This is my uffda being uffda view on this whole thing...

I think this means a few things... One, Ted isn't running things, as he wouldn't react so fast. Two, it was likely someone other than Ted, not necessarily MM feeling we needed help at the position. What it mostly tells me is this... and this is the most important thing...There is renewed hope and optimism that 12 is coming back this season and the org doesn't want Hundley to put things so far out of reach that even 12 can't save us. I believe the collective org has a new outlook on the remaining schedule now that 12 is back in the building. It's sad that we weren't better prepared for this prior, but nice to see them trying to do something to save the season.

If before, Hoyer is a FA. And he can sign with anyone.

I cant believe I must keep repeating this on this site; but football just like life is often a 2 way street. Ted can't snap his fingers and make Hoyer a Packer, if he's a FA.

Would Hoyer improve GB's 53? Sure, and they'd sign him, DEPENDING ON WHAT HE ASKING, right? Do we sign him for $40m per? of course not. For min? Certainly. What does this say about Hundley? Not a god damn thing!

How about if you're Hoyer! Where would you go to play? GB or NE? If Hoyer refused to come to GB, there is something seriously wrong with his desire to play and compete.

It just doesnt make any sense, now does it?

Folks, the depth of GB's interest was dreamed up by his agent.

Why would the agent release that info AFTER Hoyer agreed with the Pats? That doesn't help the agent or Hoyer one bit.

if they had a lack of confidence in Hundley they would have pushed harder and I can't see anybody who wants to be an NFL QB turning down a chance at being a starter to be a backup.

The only thing I know is Mike got mad at a dumbass reporter for Bringing up Kaepernivks name right after he said they were moving forward with Hundley and Callahan.

Was Hoyer available then?
No!

Yesterday the big trade happens.

Having a veteran like Hoyer wouldn't be bad insurance in case he was needed.

Hoyer unlike Kaepernick has some value as a backup and wouldn't be a cancer in the locker room .

Pretty sure Ted wasn't going to offer him a 3 year deal like Patriots did.

No harm in kicking the tires.

But some will try and make a big deal out of it.

It's speculation, but how do we know Hoyer was offered the starting job? Perhaps, he was told he could come in to be Hundley's backup, and assume the role if Hundley tanked again on MNF? What would you rather do? Be Brady's backup and have a real chance at a ring, or backup Brett Hundley on a season that appears to be fading fast? Maybe, he looked at the situation in Green Bay and realized he had no shot of succeeding here with what we have vs. what they have in NE?

Most importantly is what Buck brought up... 3 year deal vs. what I would guess was a lesser deal from us?

I don't see the harm in bringing in a proven backup on the cheap. Whether its just for depth or if they really have concerns about Hundley value signings are always welcome.
