The Packers will have the 13th or 14th pick in the first round. I am ignorant on college talent so when I say I keep hearing its a deep QB pool, it is not my word. It got me thinking ... Ron Wolf came in and got his QB. Ted Thompson came in and got his QB. What if the next GM pulls the trigger on a QB in the first round? Do the Packers trade Aaron Rodgers during the 2019 season?

Either way, it's time to start thinking about his successor. Doesn't look like Hundley is The Man.

I heard Hub Arkush on 670 say the QB position is weaker than they thought it was going to be. That doesn't mean there are not players available.

We’re transitioning. I know everyone wants to believe Aaron will still play at 40, but it’s time to plan for succession.

IF the right guy was there I wouldn't be against it. If a few years goes by and whoever was drafted looks good but Rodgers is still at the top of his game well that's a better problem than waiting too long to find the new guy.

If the best available player is a QB at 14, take him. I don't think there are many good ones, though. I don't think there's an Aaron Rodgers here.

I'm in love with Baker Mayfield's passion but he's awfully short. I've been on board with the idea of taking him previously, but I'd really have to look at him more closely. Played great early in playoff bowl game but fizzled in crunch time but every QB does at times. One thing I think, we need a defining aura type player. Rodgers has all world ability but I always found him low on aura. As much as I couldn't stand Brett, he had aura. Nobody on this team has it. We need some and Baker has plenty. It could make us attractive to other players like 12 and 4 before him. We need a big draw. We don't need the next Bubba Franks or Ha Ha...we need a true game changer to get excited about. Baker is someone to energize the base, the base that understands 12 has about 3 more Aaron years left.

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

Lamar Jackson would be a steal in the 2nd similar to the Arod fall if other QB needy teams pick these other big names. He may end up being the best of the bunch before its all over.
The other guy that looks interesting if he comes out is Drew Lock from Missouri. Called a gunslinger with a big arm who puts a little to much zip on short passes. In other words a young Brett Favre. Maybe a 3rd round guy that needs and could handle a couple years backing up 12.

I'm on board with a QB at this point mainly to get someone better then Hundley and if he turns out to be really good down the road fantastic. Not in the first round though. I just don't see a QB worth the risk looking at that group and the high rate of failure 1st round qb's have had in the past. I don't have confidence there's a franchise qb in this bunch.

I'd far rather have a quarterback who has no "aura" but operates with surgical precision than a quarterback with all the aura in the world who throws six interceptions in a single playoff game, four of which were entirely his fault, or who checks out in the second half of an NFC Championship Game.

Lots of aura or no aura, they both have the same number of rings at this point, so I tend to think "aura" isn't all that important.
