not sure how to do a direct link but there you go ...

So how much did they offer him 1 mil a year from 10? or 2 mil come on ... hes not worth that even to the new gm? seriously?

I dont get any consolidation when a player does well that we let go - noone says oh ya you were right ... what we get is a lesser team.

This is what have you done for us lately league, and the fact of the matter is Nelson didn't do much last season, and Cobb did more and his younger.

There's no loyalty in pro sports. That's a myth. Ask Brett Favre and Peyton Manning.

the player that should of been shipped out as soon as FA started is hundley.

If they were to offer Nelson 5 million, I think Nelson would of taken it and then Cobb might of walked... heck James Jones implied that Nelson really considered the $2 million (or less).

Then offer it to Cobb, and then you get both to reduced contracts or you then free up $15 million when you release Cobb.

The last loyalty I remember was Donald Driver. He took less, and retired when it was obvious that the Packers would be moving on.

Robin Yount took a lot less money from the Milwaukee Brewers to stay here for his entire career then the big money he could have got on the open market.
These types are very rare though.

I will say that I agree with the cut, but I do think I would have cut Cobb instead. Age really doesn't matter as they both only have one year left on their contract. So if Cobb produces this year is it because of age or because he is playing for a new contract? Are we gonna get fooled again and give him big bucks on another deal?

It wasn't Driver being loyal, it was BOTH Driver and the Packers being loyal and they kept Driver on larger contact until he became the 5th receiver.

5th receivers are normally considered to be young developmental players and/or special teams aces... which Driver was clearly neither at that point.

So really that contract reduction was not loyalty but common sense... neither side could justify keeping Driver on the larger contract.

Nelson was loyal to the Packers... the Packers just weren't loyal back in this position/ at this time. Offering Nelson a contract less than $2 million when his market is $7.5 million is a joke... and James Jones reported Nelson was still considering it because he wanted to stay.

BOTH sides are guilty of lack of loyalty. But the Packers are a business and have to run it that way. It’s not like Nelson wasn’t paid VERY well for the last 10 years. And Nelson earned it.
It IS a 2 way street.
I don’t blame Nelson for running after the money.
We are Packer fans, and love “our” team. The players don’t. It’s a JOB for them.

Nelson got paid well, but the Packers also got some damn good results from him too, so again that again is a wash. And when Nelson signed that contract many were surprised it was so low... claiming Nelson clearly left money on the table as WRs of his talents were getting a good bit more elsewhere.

We are Packers fans and we do love our team. But that doesn't mean we can't love our players as well. Nor does it mean our team is always right.

If the Packers asked Nelson to reduce his salary to 50% he probably would... but less than 20%... when he probably would be a starter? I don't think there is a single person that would do that...

(Tom Brady doesn't count as he was the very poor one in his marriage)
