We gotta draft 'em. We got the weapons... we need the warriors.
Circular Arguments: They are a heck of an annoyance

Michael Johnson of Georgia Tech already tops my wish list. He's 6'7" 260 to 270 range and he's quick. ESPN doesn't rate him as high as I do, but I think he'll be great.

Greg Hardy, Everette Brown, Jerry Hughes, and scouts love Brian Orakpo. Orakpo could be the next Demarcus Ware like player. I think a 3-4 team will take him and convert him to OLB, but a 4-3 team who needs a pass rusher could take him too.

Tyson Jackson of LSU also could be a good inside pass rusher too and we also need that.

I don't know about Michael Johnson. He's one of those workout warriors that's a physical specimen, but hasn't shown any production in college. Think Calais Campbell. Sure, he looks like Julius Peppers and Mario Williams, but he's yet to play like them. He MIGHT grow into something special, but he's not helping right away.

Hardy is probably the best of the DE group for a 4-3 scheme. Only problem is he has injury and character issues.

Orakpo is probably the best pure pass rusher, but like porky said, he projects more as an OLB in a 3-4. Same might go for George Selvie, but I'd be willing to take a flyer on him. You'd have to take him with the understanding that he probably won't be a three down lineman though.

Tyson Jackson I really like. I'm not sure he's going to be much of a pass rusher at the next level though. He's fantastic against the run and is just a good overall player, but most don't see him as a double digit sack guy. He's definitely the leader of the LSU defense though and I wouldn't hesitate to draft him despite what I wrote above. He adds the versatility that Cullen has being able to play inside and outside.

We have a lot of DL who are kind of just occupying space. A lot of Mock Drafts (I know, I know, it is early) show us taking a DL. I think another DE would be great to compliment Kampman. My brother and I talk about this regularly.

Cole is a free agent at the end of the season.

Pickett and Jolly are gone at the end of next year.

Harrell hasn't done much.

Think about it. Adding 3 new DT's that can play in the off season is not unreasonable. They will likely add more and let competition reduce it to 3.

Does anyone know if any decent DT's are likely FA next year?
I'd personally feel safer with a proven player right now than taking a
gamble on a young player to develop quickly.
Harrell may come good but at the moment we need proven veteran support in the middle.
As for DE, I hope we pick someone from the draft to support Kampman and Jenkins.

Tyson Jackson is the most versatile defensive lineman in the draft. He could play 3-4 DE or move inside as a 4-3 DT. He could be a 4-3 DE on running downs as well. Rarely do defensive tackles get double digit sacks. If one gets you six to seven that's pretty good. That's the type of player I think Tyson Jackson is capable of being from the inside in my opinion.

I think he'll probably be gone by the time the Packer pick though assuming they win at least two more games, but the more I think about it, the more I think he'd be a good pick because we need help at both DT and DE.

Michael Johnson is a player who'll translate to the NFL well in my opinion. He has underachieved to some extent in college like you said, but teams game plan around him and that's why I think his production is a little lower than it should be. I believe if you put him opposite of an Aaron Kampman, he'll give a lot of teams fits and I think early on because of his measurables.
