FCS: Week 14 Prospect Report

This weeks report is short on quantity with so many prospects now done for the year. Here is a look at some of the top performances by draft eligible prospects and a look at some players to watch down the road.

TOP PERFORMANCES

Cal Poly WR RAMSES BARDEN (6060, 240) had another stellar performance. The senior closed his record-breaking career with six catches for 108 yards and two scores in the Mustangs 49-35 first round loss to Weber State.

Despite losing to Richmond, Eastern Kentucky SS BRANDON GATHOF (6012, 206) led the Colonels in tackles with nine in a very impressive game that saw him all over the field.

In the loss to North Alabama, Delta State OLB ANTHONY KING (6023, 215) finished with 10 tackles, one and a half for loss, one and a half sacks, and a forced fumble.

The playoffs always provide great first round games and James Madison QB RODNEY LANDERS (60, 217) led the Dukes to an exciting 38-35 victory over Wofford. Landers had 166 yards rushing and one score on 24 attempts and completed 8 of his 15 passes for 126 yards and three more scores. He had just one interception and tallied 298 yards of total offense in the Dukes impressive first round performance.

In their 45-36 loss to Northwest Missouri State, Abilene Christian got another great performance from RB BERNARD SCOTT (5104, 197) who ran for 169 yards and two scores on 26 attempts to average 6.5 yards per carry. He also hauled in five passes for 76 yards.

Richmond DE LAWRENCE SIDBURY, JR. (6024, 265) finished with two stops, one and a half for loss, one sack, and three quarterback pressures in their dominating defensive performance against Eastern Kentucky.

It was another productive day for Richmond RB JOSH VAUGHAN (5115, 226) who had 23 carries for 90 yards and two scores in their first round victory over Eastern Kentucky.

SCOUTS BUZZ

Last week the 6th Annual East Coast Bowl featured some potential sleeper prospects. The South defeated the North 27-0 in the only shutout in the games history. Below is a look at some of the standout performances and notes from the game and practices.

Fayetteville State WR DARRYL BARNETT (6030, 191) ran in the 40 range while showing great route running ability and explosiveness in the game. He caught a beautiful 24-yard reception to set up the Souths first score of the game.

While most of the players listed here are moving up the board because of their performances, there was one player who saw his chances for a pro career hindered. Delaware State OT ADRIAN BROWN saw his stock drop as heshowed up overweight and ran in the 5.6 range despite previously being listed as a 5.1 type in the 40. Brown must impress at his pro day to bounce back from his workout.

The majority of the North teams highlights came from circus catches made by Azusa Pacific WR JON DAVIS (6031, 205), including a remarkable 30-yard, one-handed sideline grab. He finished with three receptions for 66 yards on the day.

Central State LB JON FOSTER (6037, 247) ran in the 4.55 range and looked very good throughout the week. His measurables and raw ability have intrigued scouts and have made him a player to watch throughout the postseason.

The player receiving the most buzz from the game is St. Paul CB GREGORY TOLER (5112, 185) who ran in the high 4.3 range and was outstanding in the game. Toler finished with two interceptions on the day and is flying up the board.

The first ever five-star high school recruit participated in the game this year in Union College LB WILLIE WILLIAMS (6027, 211) who started his career at Miami, Florida. Williams finished with 12 tackles and two forced fumbles. His speedhe ran in the 4.51 range--and his game performance may have put Williams back on the prospect map and hes certainly a player that scouts will flock to see at his pro day if he is not invited to the NFL Scouting Combine.

FASTEST PLAYER

Southern Utah CB DEWAYNE LEWIS ran the fastest time of any prospect at the game clocking in the 4.33-4.38 range.

NOTE TO FUTURE PROSPECTS

The East Coast Bowl is growing and becoming a worthy game to attend. This year there were several potential late round prospects in attendance although several quality players turned down offers due to poor advice from agents who dont yet realize the impact of this game. The Texas vs. Nation game is offering invites to some of the top performers from the game, making this game a sort of training ground for those fringe prospects who need to impress scouts. There were players who turned down the offer to play and will regret it in the end. For those players making plans next season, if your team is done playing before the ECB is played you must attend this game. As a small school insider I have taken notice of this worthwhile event and feel that small school players could really use it to elevate their draft status.

2010 EARLY DRAFT WATCH DUAL THREAT TRANSFER!

Former LSU QB RYAN PERRILLOUX (6024, 223) landed at Jacksonville State this past offseason and showed flashes of why he was so highly recruited coming out of high school. The 2008 Second Team All-OVC selection finished with 2,318 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 13 picks on 187 of 297 passing. He also finished with 368 yards and seven scores on the grounda true dual threat signal-caller. When watching film he shows good arm strength, mobility, and accuracy but makes his share of mistakes as well, throwing into double coverage and under-throwing receivers. Scouts will love his upside as he can make the deep throws with accuracy, throw the out routes, and has a compact release. His past baggage and inconsistent decision making make him a probable priority free agent or late round value entering his senior season. However, he has the potential to shoot into the 3rd-5th round range with an impressive senior campaign and if he can prove his off-the-field troubles are a thing of the past.
