http://bleacherreport.com/articles/99418-brett-favre-vs-aaron-rodgers-end-of-season-edition

Now I don't know how often anyone here has read David's take on the comparisons, but basically he's been comparing both QB's performances each game this past season. The above link is his end of season evaluation of the two QBs. Interestingly on the 2nd page are the stats he's found relating to game winning drives:

One of the main things people criticized Rodgers about was his failure in crunch time.

Well, they say numbers don't lie. Let's bring numbers into this. First off, I want to clarify what a game winning touchdown and game losing pick are.

A game winning touchdown is a TD pass on the last (competitive) possession of that particular team. This TD pass wins the game.

A game losing pick is the exact opposite. A pick on the last possession of that team. Of course the offensive team must be at least one scoring possession down. Doesn't count if it is 40-3.

Rodgers threw no game winning touchdowns.

Favre threw one game winning touchdown.

Rodgers threw three game losing picks.

Favre threw one game losing pick.

As you can see, there is little separating the two. Except that Favre actually threw a game winning TD.

Now, I know the quarterback doesn't HAVE to throw a touchdown pass to win a game. Don't worry, I have those stats too.

Rodgers completed no game winning drives.

Favre completed two game winning drives.

Rodgers "missed" five game winning drive opportunities.

Favre "missed" two game winning drive opportunities.

I would like to point out that Mason Crosby missed two game winning field goal chances.

This is the one area Rodgers has to improve. I'm not giving him a free pass because he was a first time starter. Ryan, Flacco, Quinn, and Hill got it done at least once, so the inexperience argument doesn't fly. He has to be better running a 2 minute offense with the game on the line. Yes, the defense sucked at holding late leads, but sometimes you get in those games where the last team with the ball wins. We didn't win those games this year.

So if Crosby had made those two field goals, Rodgers would be 2 for 5 on game-winning drives, compared to Favre's 2 for 4. And you can't fault Rodgers for failing to move the team into better field goal position, because McCarthy called nothing but handoffs both times as soon as the team got into field goal range.

I still think Rodgers' performance during game-winning drive opportunities was unimpressive overall, but he should improve next year.

I hope he improves with this. Watching Matt Ryan has been real inspiring this year. Jealous :)

but yeah Rodgers is good too

I can't buy into all this Matt Ryan hype. I don't find 16 TDs against 11 INTs inspiring. The guy enjoyed the benefits of a monster running game and a revamped defense. As soon as his running game performed poorly (in the playoffs), he basically fell apart.

No matter what you say, people, wins and losses AREN'T the only stat that matters.

Finally - someone that makes sense regarding Matt Ryan. I haven't understood why people have been all fired up about this guy.

It's all about the wins.
If AR had got us to the playoffs, people would be singing his praises.
It wasn't his fault that we didn't get there. He did what he could.

As I'm sure Cheesey would be the first to say, only the shallow minded say, "It's all about the wins." I'd take Rodgers over Kerry Collins any day.

Yup....you are right my friend.
Some QB's get into the "big game" because of a strong supporting cast, NOT because they are the best or most talented QB's in football.

Good point cheesey look at the Pats last they were what 18-1 and this year they finished 11-5 with a qb that hasn't started since high school. That was all the team on that. Now he will get a huge contract for that. Its just not right he didn't do anything to help them win those games.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)
